Discs Not Loading Problem

Hello, i'm new to this forum, but have been a ps3 owner for the last few years.

I'm in some desperate need of some help, and i challenge the members of this forum to help me out.........if you can.

Last week my 40Gb CHECHG PS3 stopped reading any discs, audio, dvd and blu ray. So i did a system restore, curruption on hard drive fixed, but still not working. So i did a bit of research and decided that a new laser was in order. Changed over the laser yesterday, and still nothing!

The simptoms are, the drive takes this disc no problem, it even spins as it should, there is no recognition in the top right that the drive is loading and no game ever pops up. What on earth is wrong!!!!!!

If any one has any idea, please help

I had the same problem with my ps3. So I took it to a friend. He told me that the ribbon was done for and needed to be replaced.Try to check that.

Thanks, the ribbon looks to be in excellent condition. I'll order one though as they are pretty cheap and you never know!

I am having the same issue, Did changing the Ribbon help?
If not, How did you resolve this issue?

What firmware are running 440-441 has MASSIVE problems both is US and EU you will loose the ability to read discs happened to mine left sitting since last summer played a few games connected to network to play dragon's dogma updated from 360 to 441 after that blu-ray stopped working hundreds are having same issue.

Sounds like it might be time to get a new PS3. Sorry about that.
