Oblivion was announced (2004) only 2 years after the release of it's predecessor, Morrowind (2002). It has been over 4 years after the release of Oblivion (2006) and we've heard little word on Elder Scrolls 5. We are long overdue.
Bethesda is most likely going to wait for the next generation systems for the console port(s). But I believe we could see an announcement this year, a PC release late next year or early 2012, and a console port sometime afterward.
Originally I believed we wouldn't see an announcement because they may be waiting for the next generation system to be announced. But I'm wrong in that assumption.Oblivion was announced in late 2004 and confirmed for the PC and next generation consoles. The Xbox 360 was announced in early 2005. Oblivion released on the PC and 360 in early 2006 and promptly was ported to the PS3 some time later. I see no reason why this can't happen again.
What do you guys think?

I would love any type of news regarding the next Elder Scrolls game... and if the jump from Morrowind to Oblivion is any indication, then you can definitely expect an amazing improvement to TES 5

It's definitely not going to be on the PS3 or Xbox 360. They're ones to wait for better hardware, they always have. It wouldn't make sense to stay on this generation with constrained hardware instead of just waiting a couple of years for even more powerful machines. Plus, I'm sure the 360's DVD format would give them some serious hell. (a second disk for data installation isn't a viable option)

Announcement coming.
And theres no way we'll see a PS4 before 2014 - the PS3 was built to last longer than any previous PS but thats off topic.
The PS3 could very easily do the next TES with the Blu Ray and the CELL for draw distance.

Good find. Hopefully it is ES5.
OK? Elder Scrolls 5 isn't dependent upon the release of the PS4.
I've considered this as a possibility as well. But I still don't see it happening.
I'm just hoping the next ES is a bit more hardcore like Morrowind. Oblivion, while fantastic, was more casual and simplified.

yeah i agree with you, i would like to see the game take more from morrowind. that game was one of the greatest of its time imo and also the game that got me interested in rpg's. i just really really hope they do away with the god awful leveling system from oblivion. i mean the higher level your character became, the weaker your character became due to the enemies leveling so high.

Of course we will hear an announcement soon and it will be for the current systems. Bethsoft has a habit of working on games for awhile, then announcing them.
If it's more like Daggerfall and Morrowind, then that's great as Oblivion was abit noobified for my tastes.

Morrowind had a perfect level system. Some creatures would level (to always pose a challenge for certain areas) but most were set. It posed a varied world of enemies. You go into a cave at level 3, get destroyed, reload save, level up, and come back at level 10 and murder everything you see. It was the feeling of accomplishment and worked as proper feedback to all the work the player wen through.
So, yeah, I agree. Dump Oblivion's level system and bring back Morrowind's.
Also, Morrowind's system for armor and weapons was a lot better. Really good armor became more and more rare with the progression of stats. For example, there were only two full sets of Deadric armor in Morrowind. It makes sense for a super powerful armor that is rare in the lore to be rare in the game itself. Yet in Oblivion once you get to level 20 poor bandits walk around casually in the stuff. WTF

I know, but it'll probably still be able to handle it is my point so it doesn't need to be a next gen game unless is has Crysis 1 graphics which is unlikely - if its coming in the next couple of years I wouldn't expect much more of a jump than the one from Oblivion to Fallout 3. (so slightly better than Fallout 3 graphics wise).
If its on multiple DVDs like I said (installation discs, then it might but maybe not the CELL).I've considered this as a possibility as well. But I still don't see it happening.
But TESV doesn't need to be set in a MASSIVE area like Oblivion, they could set it in a smaller realm (Black Marshe) with a smaller map but lots more towns, dungeons and caves to explore.
