if people think he plays the same riffs, maybe you should pick up a freakin guitar and play it. People that say that rubbish, I highly doubt they even attempt to play a guitar. get a guitar, play kings stuff and you will see it's not the same notes every time.

Also, let me enlighten you that this is one of the few bands that hasn't really changed for the worse. A lot of bands out there that become popular, then all of a sudden change there style, people then turn away from. SLAYER has a steady fanbase, enough said.

Probably the same people that listen to the AC/DC playing the same thing album after album.

I'm not a huge Slayer fan, but I respect what they've done for metal and they have some kick-*** songs. If you don't like their type of music, that's fine. But to say they suck...well that's pretty ignorant. Of course a lot of their guitar riffs are similar, being a thrash metal band and all, but to say they play the same riff for 20 years is pretty silly.

Roadside; what are some bands that you feel are better? Of course there are plenty, I'm just curious what you're into.

and that is exactly why I like AC/DC too, they have actually played more of the same riffs that king has done but then again I hate change. When a band makes a few CD's that are similar (of course) then after that change their style dramatically, I just can't stand that.

The band STAIND, they had an album before their first album that went mainstream, it was heavy, awesome, and everything else, then they came out to the mainstream and it was nothing but sad stuff, it was toned down, etc etc. hated them after that.

I still listen to KORN, while they have changed, it wasn't by much.

I highly doubt he is incapable of writing in more then one style. He is playing in a band called slayer, the style works for them and that is what they are sticking with. Also, if you have heard previous albums, they were definitely not the same as seasons in the abyss or any other previous cd's that were released. listen to Diabolus in Musica, there is no freakin way he is playing those "same riffs" in fact that style is completely different throughout that whole CD. The fact that they changed back to their old style is because that album flopped, the next album was a little better but not what their fanbase wanted. That is why when you hear the newer album it sounds similar to their old school stuff and the SLAYER fans have been quite taken by the songs.

Also, the past 3 albums Slayer has done have been far and away anything close to their old school stuff. Personally, I don't like king, I think he is a complete jackass, but bravo to him for sticking with a style that works for him for so long.

I mean seriously, this debate against his style and playing is ridiculous. You might as well bash on blues artist for repeating licks all the time.

Take out king from slayer and stick him in a different band, his style will change.

1- Im so not even getting into how bad As I Lay Dying is.
I dont care about it musically, either, Im not a musician. Its just more like hardcore **** which I dont like.

2- Im not a huge Slayer fan but I am more into 80s thrash. Although I dont like punk and you can hear the influence, my favorite band is Sodom. Still, Slayer, you nailed it, steady fan base, theyre well known and um, slay. ;]

Will listen to the song ASAP and let you know what I think.

There is more than one way to write a thrash riff, Dimebag's and James Hetfield's riffs never blended together like King's do, he is a skilled guitarist but he just isn't a very good musician.

The previously mentioned fact about him not knowing the correct key of the songs for the scales he uses just drive that point home.

Almost all of his riffs sound like they were written at the same time, there is no progression, he is a stagnant player.
