You can deactivate the PS3's through the web, it's just that you have to do it an a convoluted way. The OBVIOUS way instructs you to call Sony.
http://www.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/home/
Log in.
At the top click "account".
On the left click "media and devices".
Under game on the right, click it to deactivate.

I don't get why they took it away from deactivation online it was a good system. Stupid.

when you log in, go to account, then go down to media and devices. then choose Game. You should be able to deactivate in there.
Since I already did mine recently this is what mine says. But for those who haven't you should be able to:

Youre welcome Kuro.
It applies to games as well. But as long as your PS3 doesnt break in the next 6 months (even if it does you'll be under warranty), you'll be fine

I must have done this within the last 6 months, this would explain why it is not letting me deactivate anything.

My PSN account's video content was deactivated by Sony customer service so I can use my console on it again. That said, I'm kind of with you here. Knowing the way they treat video content now, I'd just assume use the Amazon app on my PS3 and buy/rent something there. Well, I don't think I can buy through the app but I can buy on my computer and watch on the app.
Probably.
I'm glad I brought this thread back from the abyss since it's helped you guys too. Considering I wasn't able to deactivate my stuff a few years ago, I kind of figured others were in the same situation and would be interested in this information. I'm glad it helped you.
