Sports games with next gen consoles...

So what does everyone want/hope to see out of there favorite sports games for the next gen consoles? We have already got a little sneak peak of what some are going to maybe look like ex. NBA 2K6, NBA Live 2006, FIFA Soccer 2006, Tiger Woods 2006, Madden 2006... hmmm I can’t think if I have seen any other ones.

But what I would like to hope we get with the next gen sports titles, and for me who is all about basketball and soccer games. Graphics and animations are most likely going to be the first things we see drastically improved from the current gen games which is awesome and I can’t wait to see how the games are going to look and play. But I just hope they concentrate allot on making the game play as realistic as possible... I don’t know much about the next gen technology when it comes to making it easier or opening up more options for the people who create the games to maybe now be able to make them play more accurate to how it is in real life or not, but if I were to take a guess I would say sure its going to be easier for them now... but hey, maybe its not, and nothing has changed in that perspective... I guess we will find out when the time comes.

Also with all this new power they are going to have, I have a feeling that there going to now try and implement allot of little things that to some are not really a big deal but to others like myself can make a game THAT much better and I have already seen some of them going at this route... for instance I have never seen this yet but in NBA 2K5 apparently if you are playing and you are the home team and you are just getting blown out you will actually see the crowd disappearing from the stands and it will take you to a little cut scene of the crowd looking all upset and angry and seeing them walk out, which is really cool I think... also something like half time highlights and at the end of the game highlights! again NBA 2K5 did half time highlights, and I cant remember if they had end game highlights as well... but that’s a really cool addition for the game... and maybe even being able to see other highlights of the other games that went on when you are playing in your season. Also what would be cool to see is when a game is really close and someone goes to block your shot lets say and it looks like he could of fouled you, it would be awesome to see your players on the bench and the coach just jump off there seat and start making movements like "WOW FOUL, REF HOW DID YOU NOT SEE THAT, OMG OMG" type a thing... and maybe even see some technical fouls every now and then. And also with the NBA Live series and 2K series they have now if you hit the game winning shot sometimes there is a little celebration after you hit it and your players come onto the court congratulating you... I remember when I first saw that cut scene I don’t remember if it was in Live or 2K I thought it was really cool and it added the excitement to the game... it wasn’t like, ok I hit a game winning shot, onto the next game... it was like YESSSS, NICE!

Basically we already know the games are going to look nice... I just hope the game play is going to be good and the AI is going to play smart... and I almost forgot I hope the sound and even more importantly I think the crowd noises! the BOOs and CHEERs and AHHs and WOUUs etc etc... are going to be done allot more better then currently... because that also will add that much more excitement to the games

i think that the basketball games that come out in the future should have a dunk contest and all star games in the dynasty mode that would be fantastic

The ability to download new rosters instead of buying the whole new installment would be nice, y'hear me EA? Not that that's going to happen.

Ah well, the only Sports games I play are Pro Evo, occasionally, and Cricket sims (which are released on console once in a blue moon, and are usually rubbish)

the only sports game i am playing right now is pro evo... i wonder if fifa will ever come close to pro evos near perfect gameplay! i could care less also with pro evo if every team didnt have real kits or anything... the gameplay alone makes the game... though of course real kits are awesome... and since i have pro evo for PC there are patches that people have made that updates basically the whole game with real kits, recent transfers, updated formations, new balls... its simply amazing the work that these guys have done to update the game like they have

the one im most eager to play is NBA LIVE 2006, MADDEN 2006, FIFA 2006 and WORLD WINNING SOCCER INTERNATIONAL. Fifa is great for their authentic jerseys, music in menus, stadiums, names of players, leagues BUT HORRIBLE faces to players, gameplay. WORLD WINNING-GREAT FACES, GREAT GAMEPLAY, but bad jerseys and etc.
NBA LIVE 2005-kinda disappointed me with the players faces, but i really liked the reflection off the court, but i want halftime shows-cheerleaders! and mascots running up the stands, sweat on players, t-fouls, expressions with the coaches, players on bench, fans with 1 sec on on the shot clock, replays during and after the game, and owners box on franchise with upgrades to area, food, and etc.
MADDEN-is just fine all the way.

Konami did get thier mits on the licenses for the player names for a while, ages ago, alas they wasted it on a spin of title that reverted back to the series original name of ISS, it was developed by a different team than Pro Evo (Or Winning Eleven if you wanna be pedantic and use the Japanese title), it was a bit ropey, didn't sell very well at all and I believe they lost it after that.

Pro Evo still has the player edit function though, I believe, so you can change all the names to the "real ones" if you want, a trick that was invented by Actua Soccer I think, back in the day. Heh, me and my brothers played Actua Soccer 2 to death, happy days!

You can download rosters. In madden as soon as you log online it updates yuor rosters. If people are hurt, they are hurt on the rosters. Im not sure about the other EA games but i know on madden the rosters are updated.

The thing that i would like in the ps3 would be like that you could download the rosters when the team changes their players you could go online and then just download them when ever you feel like. Same with hockey and baseball and basket-ball and rugby and all other sports games out their.

well since there are already roster updates for most sports games... i am assuming you mean real time updated rosters... like for example Kobe Bryant just got traded to the New York Knicks... then you can pop online for the game and the trade will immediately be there... that would be good... maybe the game companies will find some way or system to make that actually happen... cause with my experience with NBA games and online roster updates this gen has been really crap... usually takes a month or more for them to update the rosters... not really a big deal for me, i usually just update them on my own

Did you ever play Actua Soccer 3 though? That was much more annoying, with bleedin' Robbie William's at the menu, ergh!

I gotta see a new EA baseball game. Madden will rule all but baseball, for me, is where it's at. I can't wait to play a next gen baseball game and have the player models look almost as real as the actual guys themselves. Stadiums to look magnificant and the commentary possible. I want to create my own team and have the option somehow to have the commentators say the name of it while playing the game. Create my own stadium, in Canada too for cryin out loud, and be able to pick the color of my seats and everything right down to the heights and widths of everything.
Don't get me wrong, Madden is already going to have all of this cause they always do, but I can't wait to play it as well. Madden is by far one of the best if not the best title from EA.
I'm not a big Soccer fan or Basketball fan, but when it comes to graphics hopefully looking this good, I'll manage to find my way and become a huge fan of the genres.
Hockey.............Hockey...............what can I say? I love the sport just as much as Baseball, but for a while it seemed like EA was leaving it in the dark. I thought EA did a poor job of creating the NHL. I love Hockey so maybe I was just too picky but when a Hockey game hits the PS3 I'll probably be wettin my pants.
    Peace out Ninjas.

Look for me. I always use the name,

Sony over M$ anyday, including the Nintendo who paved the way!

pro evolution soccer for its gameplay..fifa for its licences..but fifa better watch out, pro evo is getting more licences at each game and the editor is doing fine (although is boring to correct all the names)..but in the end i prefer pro evo like in a reason of 1 to 100

I would personally like to see Pro Evo 6 come out with a less "arcady" feel to it and a bit more licenses, and a bit more match atmosphere. Either that or EA should learn from Konami and put a similar gameplay style into FIFA, then that would be pretty much the ONLY sports game I would buy for the next gen console. Maybe NHL if the game is visually pleasing enough because NHL games have always been fun (The last one I bought was NHL9.

Another game im looking forward to is mlb200g because the graphice the gameplay and the new game modes. I also am looking forward to nba live 2006 for all the same reasons.

NBA Street Volume 4 should be great, or at least look great. I've grown tired of the series because of the repetitiveness. I feel that with the new sense of realism provided by next-gen consoles, NBA Street will come back to life for me. Same thing with NBA 2k6.

FIFA, it needs major AI improvement. It is quite annoying running one person up to the goal to score, without your midfield or defense pushing up. Same thing on defense, midfielders do not help enough. Also, I don't really notice ball curve.

The graphics on FIFA need to be much better, I find it hard to read text and menus; plus the people do not look very good. I think just having it in hi-def will help tremendously.

I can not wait for wait for Madden Next Gen, I expect a perfect football simulation. I want awesome graphics, better announcing, and that injury report that was displayed in the 60 second commercial during the draft, also I need to see better player models if you saw the Xbox 360 presentation on MTV the player models are far worse then this generation.

Id like to see NBA jam, more true to the original. I have the PS2 version but its very clunky and the gameplay isn't as quick or exciting as the original was.

Weekly Editorial Idea (Best of the Rest)

Hi all. I know I'm new here but I had an idea for a weekly editorial I could do, called "The Best of the Rest."

As I'm sure most of you do, I play a lot of non-Sony stuff as well. I don't know how fiercely loyal everyone is, but this would basically be a roundup of what's going on in the lives of the other systems (360 & Wii) - news recap, what's good that you should be playing, brief thoughts on recent demos, what's coming soon and exciting. Just kind of a quick nod to what's going on elsewhere in the industry, since I'm sure most of the readers are multiplatform players as well. I've always thought it's best to embrace the competition, without straying from your purposes. Just a thought, feel free to strike it down with loud thunder, I'll understand.

I think its a great idea. I love the Xbox 360 and I could talk about many of its games. However I know nothing of the Wii.

Also... Seb, Kieran, Jordan, and I have a few things from GDC that we havent talked about yet in terms of the other platforms and even Mobile gaming.
