PS3 - giving the Xbox 360 the slapdown
It looks like cutting down on that excess bodyweight has done the PS3 some favours. Sony’s home hub has sold more than its big time rival the Xbox 360 in the past year according to official figures. And surely that’s all down to the rejigged PS3 Slim, which landed last summer replete with a pared down price tag.
From July 2009 to June 2010, Sony sold 14.3 million PS3s, compared to 10.3 million Xbox 360s. The latter number was served up by Microsoft after recently announcing how all of its gadgets and services are fairing.
That puts the PS3 three million ahead in the last year, although Microsoft has still sold more consoles since the two locked horns back in 2006. That said, Sony will doubtless be chuffed that its console is surging ahead. Microsoft will be hoping the new slim Xbox 360, as well as Kinect, can help it snatch back top spot.
But with PlayStation Move out at the end of September, don’t expect Sony to surrender its lead easily. It seems the console wars are about to get tasty again.
