I'd return with, "Why cheat yourself of the experience?". What's the point of playing with motion controls if you're not going through the motions?

unfortunately, people cheat their way through all sorts of crap. look at Modern Warfare 2. loaded with cheaters. go to a gym and watch people throw weights around instead of actually controllably lifting them... that is another way of cheating. if it can be done, people will do it. the nice thing about Move is it doesn't allow it as much if at all. you have to perform the correct actions or it doesn't work. take the ability of cheating away from people and they won't be able to do it. that would be the best solution.

They are using motion control despite it being limited compared to what Move may have. For the most part, when people do play motion control games on Wii they tend to stand up and get "into it" even though you don't have to exert yourself so much to play it. More than likely it's just a natural tendency based on the subject content, for lack of a better phrase. Indeed, with Move the game may actually allow for more realistic capture of your motions and that's definitely a more authentic experience as a result, but in the grand scheme of things it's no more of a legitimate experience than what people are already doing on Wii with their actions despite the lack of that 1:1 fidelity.
It may make it easier to pick up on by simplifying the interface like that but the user themselves may interpret it completely different and react to it as such. Hence the kid in the video simply waggling the controller left and right and seemingly preferring to do it that way after multiple warnings.

The father comes across as an ***, way to make your kid like Move.

The problem with that though is that sometimes it works better to flick than actually swing. If you use a full swing sometimes the paddle onscreen would swing WAY too soon or too late, it wouldn't accurately tell when the actual swing was. So flicking the wrist was a short enough motion for the Wii to get the correct timing of the swing.
Trust me, I was like you. And sure, it's fun trying to look like you are really playing, but when it doesn't work right like that it defeats the purpose. I might as well get SOME enjoyment out of it by being competitive while at the same time taking the frustration of finicky controls out of the equation.
This actually happened with most Wii games, and is the main reason why flicking got so popular. It was just easier and more reliable. The reliable part being key.
I know right. Who is so pumped about Move that they want to make their kid look silly on the internet just to prove a point. Priorities need a fixing.
