Many people wonder about how the PlayStation Move performs under different light conditions. Coming from the EyeToy experience of old, this is quite understandable. But the PlayStation Move is different.
With the assistance of an EyePet Move Edition demo, I have put together an extensive tech video showcasing how the PlayStation Move (or rather the PlayStation Eye) deals with all sorts of light conditions I was able to recreate in my tiny room.
The results are both reassuring and interesting, I believe.
The video awaits you after the jump.
Enjoy!

PlayStation Move Vs Light ( iwaggle)

I think TTP is awesome. He's easily got the best PS3 Move coverage videos anywhere on the web. I'm actually surprised at how well the Move handles some extreme changes in lighting. You really have to go out of your way to lose the accurate tracking.

Very, very good demonstration. Looks like the re-calibration dims the brightness being seen in the attempt to find the Move among the rest of the environment, and it works remarkably well for being such a practical approach by what is otherwise sophisticated technology. Overall, light should not be a problem and projectors should work just fine.

I think it's just different stages of exposure. the PSeye is a surprisingly well made camera, better than a majority of web cams.

Personally I care little for move but from a tech perspective that is actually quite interesting, really only unrealistic conditions can really mess it up, at the worse natural setting it works with slight dips
if I am in the PS3 or 360 section I will NOT post about the competitor just to please people, if you want to know what I think about the competitor link me to a thread in the appropriate section

Sigh. I guess it's time to get rid of that super powerful spot light that I have in my room. =\

Really didn't expect the camera to pick up the move when he had that ultra bright spotlight directly behind him engulfing the entire room in nothing but light.
I'm a thoroughly surprised at how well the calibration and tracking worked in such extreme conditions.Last edited by faaeng; 09-03-2010 at 10:29.
PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

I can live with that.

That is pretty damn impressive. I do have light coming in the house through various windows, so it's good to see that Move will work just fine in those conditions.
On a side not, that guy is hilarious. What would have been epic, is if the eyepet would have been set ablaze when he turned the Super Nova on! lol
