1. After you beat the game, do you get free roam? Meaning, without those stupid annoying mission timers that completely ruin the experience and feel of the game. There's lots of re-spawning zombies, so I figure, would they let you get back to killing zombies for fun?
2. Was there ever a mission timer in the first game, or could you go around killing zombies for fun?

Dead Rising 2 questions

1. As far as I know, there is no free-roam mode even after you beat the game. You could do what I did, however, and create a separate save file, get up to the point where you give Katey her first Zombrex and get the maintenance then just do what you want until the time is up. You'll get the really crap ending but you can restart the save game from that point and play all over again. Just make sure you do it on a separate file.
2. Dead Rising did, as far as I know, have a timer just like this. You played a journalist and you had three days to help clear the mall before the government blew it to hell. Hmm, sounds a tad familiar, doesn't it?

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

I too am very disappointed with all the timers. I played the demo for the 1st DR and loved it i just assumed that the timers where in the demos only.

The DR games aren't something that works on the first playthrough, when you start over you keep your level so the game continues to change pretty much until you hit the cap. Dropping it in a couple of days is way premature, IMO
As for free roam, in DR1 you start off in 72hr mode and unlock overtime mode on completion, once you finish overtime you unlock infinity mode which is pretty much what you expect (free, sandbox play, albeit with decaying health) afaik 2 doesn't have an infinity mode but it'll probably be added in DLC (or there will be other ways to accomplish the same thing by avoiding certain missions, I'm sure - I haven't tried yet personally, too busy playing TIR
)
ETA: or you could just ignore everything that's not a case, you don't *have* to rescue the survivors, after all, and you get plenty of time to dick around between cases. Trying to do everything on your first play, while you're stupidly low level is insane, frankly

Just the kind of game it is dude, you might as well ask "why do I have to eat all these stupid dots?" about Pac-man

If you don't bother with the survivors the game isn't very strict about time, but rescuing all the survivors in time is painful because it's basically total completion of the game (picture it as kinda like DR's equivalent of the cop/taxi/fire/ambulance missions in GTA) If you attempt to do all that flawlessly first time - before your dude has unlocked all the special moves, gained all his health, and has a massive amount of inventory slots it'll destroy your will to live

thats the type of game it is. its not that its easy to make it free roam with now time limit, its a design element. its fundamental to both dead rising 1 and 2, aswell as the save system. its what makes dead rising dead rising. if you want free roam zombies buy the red dead dlc pack.................
.There will be Blood in the Water.

Just don't do any missions, other than the
You can beat the game with hardly doing anything... Then you can spend most your time gettingthan after you beat the game, restart with all your stuff, and do it again...
The cool thing is after 1 or 2 playthroughs of random zombie killing, exploring, side missions, you can have great experience for a real play through...
Remember after any mission failure, you can still select continue,
Edit:
Yeah, from what I understand, if you run out of time for any mission, you can keep playing afterword... So just do that and you have un-timed free-roam

Looks like Im one of the only ones who like the timers.
Its a zombie apocalypse. I like the stress feeling of having to run around and get everything done one time. If you don't hurry people die! Its intense!
Despite all its silliness its the closest thing we have to a real zombie apocalypse survival game, and thats the part I choose to focus on during serious play throughs.

I agree, I enjoy the timers as well...
HOWEVER!!!
People need to understand how the game works...
With the unlimited new game+
You can freeroam and explore and have fun for 72 game hours THAN start over and focus on missions and timers... This is how I am doing it (and did it with DR1) and it makes your for real playthrough much easier and more efficient. Also, since you did no missions first time around it feels like you are replaying hardly anything.
Just make sure you complete the first part where you get Katey the medicine, so you can get the matinence keys and combo cards... Than go to town, collecting weapons, having fun, getting PP...
You keep all your combo cards, experience, vehicle keys, etc... when you restart your game... Hell you can do this 50 times again and again, just like an unlimited freeroam...
It really is a great way to have a freeroam game when you think about it...Love United

I've unlocked the first speed upgrade - anybody know what the others do? Do you unlock a sprint command or something?
Currently playing BF3 and Minecraft.

Free Roam
Hey guys,
So I dont know if it is different on the PS3, but I am playing DR2 on the 360, and after I beat it and restarted the game with my current character level and everything, i got katey her first zombrex and then played until the Case when you first meet the reporter in the Hotel (I think its called Alive on Location or something), I LET THAT CASE EXPIRE, and then it says "The truth is lost, but you can still try to save people in fortune city." and then it gives you the option to Load your game, Quit or Continue playing (Choose that one), which is pretty much a free roam mode because you dont HAVE to save anybody if you dont want to. It worked for me and now im in zombie killing heaven!!

i used to hate the timers cuz id always run out of time when messing around but i find it only annoying to always get Katey zombrex the only thing id change about this game cuz its sad when she turns and it ruins the story so u pretty muxh fail the game if she dies and i do kinda wish there was more available time cuz i used to have problems about running into psychos when already being late on a main quest and Brads hideout was in the worst place ever in a bathroom of a zombie infested casino where if u wer a very low level and had a flashing bar ur good as dead "grr"
