Pretty much confirms what we knew - Kinect has given the 360 platform a major lift in terms of units sold. But it has also raised the average price of that unit sold as well as...
Of course individual Kinect units have sold (at high RRP's) thus helping the results.
Kudos to Microsoft. They marketed the product well and captured the imagination of the public (especially the concept of what comes post-Wii).
I think it is no coincidence that Wii sales are flagging now. Kinect is seen as the new thing on the market to buy for the casual market...so cannibalization is occurring for the Wii.Last edited by Wasib; 04-29-2011 at 00:29.

This thread should be merged, we arent allow these as indiivudal threads.
But...I just did some anaylsis, and you know what, the up tick is world wide, not just in the states.
They amount of units sold for the first 9 months of their fiscal this year and last year both show around 50% (48 and 53) ratio. Which means MS has succeded in not only increase the sales in the states but overseas as well.

I think that's 10.4 million
because FY11 Q2 sold 8M & FY11 Q3 sold 2.4
I remember them saying they reached 10 Million but I guess that was part of the 2.4 Million sold in this Quarter because it's not showing up in the reports only the 8 million they sold in the launch Quarter & the 2.4 Million this Quarter

I think Kinect is an awesome piece of tech but I, along with many others, are still waiting on that title that makes it a must-have.

for many Dance Central , Kinect Sports & Your Shape Fitness are most haves. I guess you're waiting for more hardcore game. I'm not sure there will be too many must have hardcore Kinect games but if MS is smart they will make use of it in Gears of War 3 & some how get them to make use of it in Call of Duty in a way that make people want to have it just for the perks that they get from having it.

What on earth makes you think trying to hack-in Kinect controls into an already established game series with established fans who are comfortable with an established control scheme is a good idea?
Do you really think it would end up as anything other than a poorly designed hack job? Neither of these games were made for Kinect, so trying to add in Kinect support would be precisely that, a hack job with no prior design considerations for the changes.
A "hardcore" game for Kinect would have to be built specifically for Kinect. Trying to hack in motion controls into a non-motion control game isn't going to make anyone happy.

Microsoft top selling console in April and up 60% over last year.

FYI
http://gamingeverything.com/?p=4324Update: Greenberg also tweeted that “54 million Xbox 360 consoles sold now world wide” and if you calculate April’s 60% figure from last year’s total, this month’s console sales should be at around297,000 units.
The full April 2011 May NPD report is expected to be released today, but don’t expect hardware figures to be revealed immediately. It’s possible that we’ll receive data from company responses, though that isn’t even a guarantee.
In terms of hardware sales, we know that, at the very least, the Xbox 360 is still the best-selling console of the year. Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg just tweeted that sales are up 60% compared to 2010. A logical assumption is that Kinect is providing a respectable boost for the console.
“#NPD just released April sales & Xbox 360 continues to be best selling console of 2011 up 60% over last year”

Xbox ahead in online-capable game sales
The Xbox 360 sells roughly twice as many online-capable games as the PlayStation 3 does, according to US stat-tracking company NPD.
NPD statistics for 2010, reported by Gamasutra, show Xbox 360 online-capable game sales were roughly seven times the Wii equivalent.
US shops sold nearly four times as many Xbox 360 digital points cards than PlayStation 3 cards – however, it should be noted that NPD's data does not include digital currency, such as Microsoft Points, bought through the consoles.
It should also be noted that, as of April this year, Microsoft had shifted 25.4 million Xbox 360s in the US. Sony had sold 15.4 million PS3s.
The statistics were revealed by graphs released by NPD yesterday. It did not supply actual sales figures.
Meanwhile, sales of games that support stereoscopic 3D represented 25 per cent of all new retail software sales in November 2010. This April the figure was 10 per cent.
Sales of motion-controlled games increased significantly between April 2010 and April 2011 – unsurprising given both the PlayStation Move and Kinect launched during that time period.

Double is pretty dang high.

According to Major Nelson's Twitter, the 360 sold twice as many as the next closest competitor.
