Numbers are going down but they still outsold the competition. Maybe a price drop will come in a few months.
Xbox 360 sells 160,000 units in US during May
Microsoft's hardware topped all consoles and took 45 percent of the market share
Following the release of the NPD data for the month of May, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg tweeted that Xbox 360 took 45 percent of the console share for the month, which is the 15th consecutive month that the platform has had 40 percent share or greater in the US.
All told, the console sold 160,000 units in May. Microsoft confirmed in a separate email statement that this does indeed make the console the top selling console once again in the US. Xbox 360 has been "maintaining its position as the best-selling console in the US for the past 17 months," the company boasted.
The Xbox 360 saw total retail spend (hardware, software and accessories) reaching $209 million, "the most for any console in the US and more than the spend on the other two current-generation consoles combined." Six of the top 10 selling games according to NPD were on the Xbox 360 platform.

dont see any reason as to why they would want to drop the price. get profitability unless they have something they are looking to release like a new console in the works

You can see the numbers are on a decline, we need newer consoles imo.
However MS are on a roll and the 360 is still kicking it and gamers enjoy the experience, I guess that speaks for itself.

47%?????? forget the declining sales, that is a good market share for anyone to have any given month. New consoles needed though

The super slim PS3 must not have been in full production yet.
Xbox did 438k in 2011 during the same month. HUGE drop.

via VG247.Microsoft shipped 1.7 million Xbox 360 consoles during the first quarter of its financial period ending September 30, down 600,000 units compared to the 2.3 shipped during the same period in FY12.
The firm’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which contains the Xbox brand, reported revenues of $1.95 billion, which was rather flat compared to the same period in FY12.
Operating income dropped 94% to $19 million, and the less-than-stellar results were blamed on a smaller release slate: during the same period in 2011, Gears of War 3 was released.
“Video game revenue decreased primarily due to the release of Gears of War 3 in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012 with no comparable major releases in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013,” was the firm’s exact quote.
Xbox 360 revenue decreased $418 million, down 24% year-over-year due to “lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue,” said Microsoft. This was offset “in part by higher Xbox LIVE revenue.”
Research and development expenses increased $140 million or 44%, primarily reflecting higher headcount-related expenses related to interactive entertainment and the acquisition of Skype.
Quarterly revenue for the firm as a whole came in at $16.01 billion with $4.47 billion in net income.

They are spending it on a new console, only an idiot would believe otherwise.
In other words they made $159 million but spent most of the next Xbox.

MS has sold 70 million Xbox 360s
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...lion-xbox-360s
Microsoft has sold 70 million Xbox 360s since its November 2005 launch, it announced last night.
1.7 million consoles were sold during the first quarter of the 2013 financial year - that is, during the period July to September 2012. That's down 600,000 on the 2.3 million it sold during the same period last financial year.
The Xbox 360 has cemented second place in the three-horse console sales race. For comparison, Sony had sold 63.9 million PlayStation 3s as of the end of March 2012 and Nintendo had sold 96.56 million Wiis as of the end of June 2012.
The Entertainment and Devices Division, of which Xbox is a part, enjoyed revenue of $1.95 billion, a decrease of just 1 per cent year on year. Income dropped from $340 million to $19 million off the back of tough comparisons: Microsoft launched Gears of War 3 in September 2011 and didn't launch anything major during Q1 fiscal 2013. Microsoft also pointed to higher cost of revenue and a 44 per cent increase in research and development expenses to $140 million. Wonder what all that's about then COUGH NEXT-GEN COUGH?
Xbox 360 revenue decreased 24 per cent to $418 million "due mainly to lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue, offset in part by higher Xbox Live revenue".
Microsoft stressed Xbox 360 is the top selling console in the US with an impressive 49 per cent market share. It added that Xbox Live members were up 15 per cent, but didn't provide an updated figure on the 40 million users announced last financial year (as Eoin points out, based on the available information there are 46 million XBL members).Last edited by Blacksite; 10-19-2012 at 18:34.

Microsoft owns November, with more than doubling sales of it's closest competitor and selling more than it did in 2011. According to Analysts Webush Morgan.
1.4 MILLION Xbox 360's sold in November 2012
NPD sales estimates have been released for November, revealing a dominant month for the Xbox 360.
According to the consumer market research firm, which calculates retail software and hardware sales in North America, the Xbox 360 shifted an impressive 1.4 million units.
To put that into perspective, that’s more than the PlayStation 3 (700,000) and the newly-released Wii U (450,000) combined.
The figure also bests year on year sales numbers for the console. In November 2011 the Xbox 360 sold an estimated 1.35m units.
Taken as a whole, however, console sales are down 16% this year, due in no small part to the imminent arrival of the next-generation of consoles.
Full list below.
- 360: 1,400,000 / Last year: 1,350,000
- PS3: 700,000 / Last year: 850,000
- Wii U: 450,000
- 3DS: 440,000 / Last year: 800,000
- Wii: 435,000 / Last year: 170,000
- DS: 375,000 / Last year: 260,000
- Vita: 190,000
- PSP: 9,500 / Last year: 8,000
- PS2: 500
