Meanwhile, two games weirder than Zelda attracted far more exclusive audiences. Child of Eden, the NPD told Joystiq, sold approximately 34,000 units in its debut month, ranking at number 83
    That's pretty poor.

Child of Eden really should be a budget priced title at $39.99 or even an XBLA/PSN title, not a $60 retail title.

Child of Eden at our local Best Buy is 49.99... haven't seen it at 59.99 before here.

    for the lazy:

Xbox 360 Ships 13.7 Million Units in Fiscal 2011, Profit Doubles

Microsoft has really been on a roll. Every month, along with NPD data, we hear how the Xbox 360 is the top selling console. Now, in Microsoft's just released fourth-quarter and year-end earnings, we see that Xbox 360 shipped 13.7 million units (up from 10.3 million in 2010) and operating income more than doubled for the Entertainment and Devices Division from $618 million to $1.32 billion.
"Entertainment & Devices Division revenue grew 30% for the fourth quarter and 45% for the full year, due to the ongoing momentum of the console, Kinect, and Xbox Live. Xbox 360 has been the top-selling game console in the U.S. over the past twelve months," the company boasted.

Regarding full-year revenue, Microsoft stated: "EDD revenue increased primarily reflecting higher Xbox 360 platform revenue. Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $2.7 billion or 48%, led by increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles, sales of Kinect sensors, and higher Xbox LIVE revenue."

Looking specifically at the fourth quarter ended on June 30, Xbox 360 shipped 1.7 million units, compared to 1.5 million a year earlier. Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $293 million or 29%.

Overall, Microsoft produced another record quarter as Q4 revenue jumped 8% to $17.37 billion.

    For the lazy:

Take-Two posts Q1 2012 fiscal results; net revenue of $334.4 Million, digital sales up 49%, Xbox 360 revenue overtakes PS3MONDAY, AUGUST 08, 2011

Numbers, figures and statistics. Get your calculator out and get ready to come on a wild adventure as we run through the newly posted Take-Two Q1 2012 fiscal results.

The net revenue of the company was $334.4 Million, thanks to best sellers like L.A. Noire and...*shudder*...Duke Nukem.
For the first quarter ended June 30, 2011, net revenue was $334.4 million, as compared to $375.4 million for the year-ago period. GAAP loss from continuing operations was $8.6 million, or $0.11 per share, as compared to GAAP income from continuing operations of $27.4 million, or $0.31 per diluted share, for the year-ago period. Non-GAAP net income was $2.0 million, or $0.02 per share, as compared to Non-GAAP net income of $40.9 million, or $0.43 per diluted share, for the year-ago period.

The strongest contributors to net revenue in the first quarter included new titles led by L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem Forever(R), NBA(R) 2K11 and Carnival Games(R): Monkey See, Monkey Do(TM),and catalog titles led by the Red Dead Redemption franchise, the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Borderlands(TM).
Digital distribution continued to grow, up 49% year-over-year:
Digitally delivered content accounted for $24.6 million of net revenue, up 49% year-over-year, driven by offerings for Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Duke Nukem Forever, the Sid Meier's Civilization franchise, and L.A. Noire.
The Xbox 360 took almost half of the platform revenue mix, hitting 49% and overtaking the PS3, which fell to 41%

    Microsoft Xbox 360 - 2011 = 49% / 2010 = 45%

    Playstation 3 - 2011 = 41% / 2010 - 46%

Little change in geography, however, as North America takes 54% and International sales make up the other 46%.

Thats not a lot. Is that from Major Nelson's tweet?

Edit: Sounds like the whole market was down suffering worst month since October 2006!

#NPD reports despite slowing of market in July, Xbox360 was top selling console with 277K sold and 45% share of current-gen system sales.

    July 2011 NPD highlights include:
Holding 45% share of the overall current-generation console market, Xbox 360 sold 277,000 units in July, maintaining the number-one console spot in the U.S. for 2011. This marks the fifth month Xbox 360 has held more than 40% of the current-generation console market share. (Source: NPD Group, July 2011)

Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in July (hardware, software and accessories) reached $250 million, the most for any console in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, July 2011)

Hard to say. They'll def have the most sales for the entire year(in the states;for people that love jumping in convos without reading everything) but it'll be unlikely that they'll lead each month.

    As for the numbers.....

mynd, you've got to remember that June is a 5 week month and July is only a 4 week month to NPD, so all of the console numbers will be down by 20% anyways, plus July is historically a very slow month.

Still, this month seems particularly low. It's MS lowest sales since May of 2010.

Japanese gamers tend to enjoy different genres. RPG's, puzzle games, and others. I don't think they care as much for the 360 because most of the exclusives are shooters.

That is also one of the 360's strong suits. But I just don't think Japan really likes American products, nor the size of the controller.

I forget about that. I suppose if they come out with a price cut, it will be gang busters again.

How's that possible when RPGs have not been the strong suits of this generation on any console?

Yes, they do like JRPGs better (so do I though) but the JRPGs have been pretty much failures this generation. I can agree that they might not like the controller and they probably think the console is mostly for shooters...but because it's an American product, means nothing.

A lot of Americans that bought the PS3 and especially the 360 this generation, may not have bought consoles before because they must've felt like they were only good for JRPGs...(I've heard that before) and they may have liked shooters and WRPGs (which gained a lot more popularity pretty much this generation) and it could be why they're now buying the 360 and some PS3s in US.

Not everyone loves JRPGs here in the states...I can see Skyrim outselling FFXIII here...because people like WRPGs here more.

If what you say, were the truth then you can say that UK hates Japanese products while EU loves Japanese products and hate American products...

We all know it's more to do with what they want than where it's from.
