lol good point but then again, Nintendo screwed up royally whereas MS just sold 3m in a month. what's Wii-U's total LTD is?

ah, you mean how will they retain these people...yeah, i see what you mean but then again, we are moving towards that. the only thing is how to keep them coming back.

well, i guess that's where the service model comes in that MS is after. TV will always be wanted and X1 is a new way to interact with your media device and it's convenient. that's a job well done. they just need to expand on this each time and they should be fine.

the same goes for Sony, how far will the hardcores take them? are cores enough for them to keep going? sooner or later, Sony will have to "jump in" if you know what i mean.

Plus every cable company and dish is required to have a companion app by June of this year. They right there defeats the need to have a pass through

Dish is already working on a playstation app, I use time Warner so I'll be waiting for that one

well we'll see. it seems MS has worked a lot on this TV pass through thing. we don't know if an app will be able to match it. and i'm sure they must have anticipated this.

December NPD – Xbox One leads in December

December NPD Group figures released today revealed Xbox One was the number one selling console in the market in the U.S., selling 908,000 units in December. Additionally, Xbox 360 continued to see strong momentum with 643,000 units sold in December, putting it in the number three spot overall, and lead for last generation hardware. Together, Xbox One and Xbox 360 held 46 percent of the hardware market share in the U.S. and showed a 10 percent year over year growth from December 2012.

“We’re grateful for the excitement and support of our fans – many purchasing their next Xbox console and many joining the Xbox family for the first time,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business for Xbox. “Our journey is just starting, with more innovation, games and entertainment coming in 2014 and far beyond.”

    December 2013 NPD highlights include:

    • Total combined retail spend on the Xbox platform (Xbox One and Xbox 360) in December reached $1.39 billion, 50 percent of the combined software, hardware and accessories spend in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).
    • During the month of December, Xbox One held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console game title list: “Battlefield 4,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Madden NFL 25” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).

Fans continue to show their excitement for new generation Xbox One games, with U.S. consumers purchasing an average of 2.9 games* per console since launch.

As Mehdi mentioned last week in a thank you letter to fans, 2013 was an incredible year for gamers, entertainment fans, our industry and Xbox. You can read his full letter here.

    Mind blown, good figures.

Xbox One and Xbox 360 were the best-selling consoles of each generation during December. Xbox One sold 908,000 systems Hryb said, while Xbox 360 moved 643,000.

lol..Major nelson is getting trolled. xbox did very well. xb1 and xbo360 combined for over 1.5 mil. Impressive for the 360 to post those numbers too so late in its life. I'm still playing and buying games for it.

The console in abundant supply outsells the supply constrained console during xmas. Shocking. Good numbers though. Be interesting to see if X1 keeps outselling PS4 even after Sony is finally able to ship ample supply. I could see that happening in the US. And boy the 360 has got some legs. Still going strong.

    edited comment ~ F34R

According to Aaron Greenberg, Xbox One retail software sold approximately 4.8 million units compared to 4.2 million for PlayStation 4. While he doesn’t give the exact figure, he does comment on how Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 sold better on Xbox One.
When a user asked him about Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3 sales number, he gives the following figures for these titles.

    DR3 526K, FM5 457K, RYSE 431K.
He then clarifies that these are LTD numbers and not just December. Xbox One launched in November so these numbers should cover November + December.[/quote]

Last one should be no surprise...

Last #NPD fact: 1st/2nd party (exclusives) SW sales for #XboxOne 1.5M units vs. 599K for PS4. Led by Dead Rising, Forza 5 and Ryse.

The difference is 600k units mate.... What's with this crusade?

I'd attribute a lot of those 600k to be Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3 (wouldn't be surprised if not most/all to be from the former).

I count 10 XB1 exclusives, over 1.5 million copies, that averages to about 150K sold.

Compared to about 300k per 3 PS4 exclusives (KZ, Knack, Resogun). Though Resogun was a PS+ freebie.

To this day, PS4 is still sold out online. Retailers get more stock and then it is gone in minutes. When demand outpaces supply to this extent, yeah, the numbers are going to take a hit. Not surprised by the Xbox PR crew and their chest-pumping. That is their job after all. Good numbers overall. The only real take away from all this is that console gaming is still very strong.

edit: Based on stock levels for X1 and PS4, I wouldn't doubt that the January numbers will look similar in comparison.

very surprised that X1 outsold the PS4. though i'm curious by how much. i was expecting them to be neck-to-neck. i'm also curious how much the PS3 sold...you'd think PS3 would at least start outselling at this point lol.

what it comes down to is that it doesn't matter what was the situation because both companies had disadvantages at launch. MS more so than Sony. MS outsmarted Sony in a couple of things. they know that the real battle is in the US, being MS' stronghold. it was smart of them to limit the countries and not spread thin because they don't have the supply or well, maybe they do but they know it's smarter to outsell in certain locations rather than outselling overall. no one cares about overall. PR works better in these situations.

though i think the fight is going to be close and i would not be surprised if PS4 outsells once it's in ample supply.

Xbox sales numbers are shocking, all I can say. To each there own. However can the momentum continue? That is the key here, and that extra $100 price tag is a deterrent for the more casual crowd.

    8 years and counting!

Goodness. Is it impossible to talk about the actual information instead of all these spitballs going between members? ffs, stop it.

That's the only warning being given in this thread. Jesus. Its like every topic that has a pro on one side and a con for the other side. The staff has had to check a handfull threads over the past couple of days because it turns into a spitball fight instead of talking about the topic.

3.9 was shipped (to stores), not sold to the end customer. 3 million is the real figure for boxes in people's hands afaik.

"The company sold 7.4 million Xbox console units into the retail channel, including 3.9 million Xbox One consoles and 3.5 million Xbox 360 consoles."

Read the wording there, retail channels (stores).
