I've been playing constantly for a month now. Strip mining entire mountains and buildings fortresses in multiplayer servers. It's too damn addictive. Anyone else here playing it at the moment?

I'm always surprised a Minecraft OT thread hasn't been made here but I'm too lazy to do it.
I was really addicted for a little while but now I just play here and there. I really haven't enjoyed MP very much because I didn't download the flying hack until recently.

Hah. That's like 1% of what you can do in World of Warcraft.
^Wow troll.

not trolling, I tried it but didn't understand it.
all I could do was remove and add blocks.

You guys realize I'm talking about Alpha, right? Actually surviving in a world full of monsters? Classic is fun but it has no longevity to it.
Anyways, Notch (the developer) is finally adding health to mulitplayer in a few days. So now servers can have massive PVP fort battles.

I only play Alpha. I don't play on the hardest difficulty yet though just because I like building better than surviving. Building just isn't as fun without any type of survival though.
Here's an old pic of my newest save. I reloaded until I got a spawn point I liked, and then I began building my fort. It is HUGE.

Awesome work, Grinchy! I would show off my homey cottage (accompanied by a spiraling tower and sky castles) but I deleted my save a week ago and decide to start anew. Gonna make my new fortress here.

I've also thought about hosting my own server if anyone is interested.

You put mien to shame, how did you do that. x.x
Damn, now I think my places are **** .. may have to start over now
I stupidly kept making my houses in mountains - that were unconveniently what seems like half the world away from my spawn point.. so I kept losing it/them and had to make another. FINALLY found all four.. and my bridge to know where.
Damn this game though, why does it have to be so addicting! Been playing it now, for what seems like 17 hours straight. xD
EDIT:
if I extended a body of water AROUND my castle, so it can act as a moat - would it work, or would it eventually vanish?

^haha thanks! I got lucky and got a spawn point right under a cool looking mountain. All I did was remove a bunch of blocks from the crevice in the middle to make it more uniform, and then I mined out the inside. Actually, now that I think about it, it took forever.
I get really distracted with new things I want to try in this game. I have a "basement" that I hollowed out to make an underground forest, but never finished. I want to remove all the blocks under my staircases, but haven't finished that either. BTW, you can definitely make a moat.
Here's a tip for using water if you didn't know it. Dig out 4 blocks to make a square hole in the ground. Have 2 buckets of water. Place a bucket in opposite corners of your hole. You now have an infinite water spring! (so you don't have to go far for more water). That would make moat building much easier.

Probably going to setup a test server sometime in the next 24 hours to see how well my PC and connection handles it. It wouldn't be a dedicated server though, just a temporary server for some fun. Not sure if I'll start with a fresh map or one of my current worlds.
Also, these pictures.

This game needs to burn, I played it yesterday for what seems like 16 hours straight X_X
Best $13 I ever spent, I think.
Awesome, now I just need to make buckets - lol. Any tips on where to find iron, and while im asking for tips: some lava. (I want some obsidian, sue me.. that and im thinking of playing with the idea of a home around a lava fall, if thats at all possible without dying. haha.)

I think Iron is typically found in the lower 30-35 blocks. Lava in the lower 16. Don't dig straight down though, as you may find your skin boiling in a pool of magma.
Also, here's some good advice. Don't waste iron on tools other than pickaxes, and even then only make a few. Though steel tools are much, much stronger than stone tools, iron is also far less abundant and typically the pros and cons of utilizing this resource for tools doesn't work all to well for the player in the end. In my experience, anyways. Just make one so you can mine the higher tier ores such as gold, red stone, and diamond.
If you're thinking of making a portal, I'd also recommend building it using a cast and one block at a time. Much faster than mining a piece (takes 20 seconds I believe with a diamond pickaxed) and putting it where you want it, only to have to mine another.-No Feeble Cheering-

1. What do you mean by cast? (Im fairly new at this, so bare with my noobness. Ok? lol)
2. Whats the rock, that looks black and grey - but stone pickaxe wont effect it? I dug right down (Did it before I read your post
), and I hit that.. is that the "calm before the storm" (read: lava)? - On the upside, I found gold and iron. Downside, new world - and house/mine is 1 1/2 decently sized mountains away from spawn point - again. ><

1. Like a Mold. Cut out where you want to lay some Obsidian, fill with lava, put water over it, and you'll get Obsidian. It's faster than mining it below ground then transporting back up. (Not always, but it defintiely is for portal making)
Speaking of the portals, don't go into the Nether unless you're well supplied with arrows. Don't **** off the pigmen as they're passive at first.
2. That's adiminium, and it's unbreakable. Beyond that is nothing and you would fall forever.-No Feeble Cheering-

I played a little for the first time the other day. It's really fun, I'm definitely gonna buy it soon.

Well, the test server is up. If anyone doesn't mind, please join and tell me if it runs well or if it's laggy for you.

Yeah I would suggest buying it too. For some reason this game just felt like it was worth money to me even though I knew I could get away with playing it for free. I've barely touched multiplayer still.
Is the server still up? I wasn't able to join if it is. On an unrelated note, there is a server called City of Rapture that you can get to through the minecraft.net site that is pretty awesome.

I literally took the server down 10 minutes ago because no one was joining. I can put it back up if you're interested.

that figures!
I actually haven't played in a while, so I'm gonna do some single player. BTW do you use texture packs? And where do you get them?
I have the common ones like painterly and doku but I can't seem to find a good site that gathers them all together.
