I know the fact as a matter that Rare is owned by Microsoft now. It's not capable to bring back any classic games, but I've seen Donkey Kong Country in the virtual console which is also worked by Rare. Now why can't we get Donkey Kong 64 to the virtual console?
This has been the only Donkey Kong game that I do not own. I really would like to see it in the Virtual Console, don't feel like reconnecting my N64 and buying the game online. Which is currently my only solution of buying it.
btw, Donkey Kong Country Returns is awesome.

Seeing as Nintendo owns the DK IP and always has they very well can put DK64 on the virtual console, however the N64 section of the Wii Shop channel is definitely the most ignored one on there when there are quite a few games that can go up. However, a big issues is that a lot of games were created by publishers that have since gone through changes and transitions so a lot of the best third party N64 games aren't up because it would be a licensing nightmare, but there should be no excuse for the lack of more consistent first party releases.

I just checked the 2011 vitual console releases and its not even there. It's the same thing with the PlayStation Network, they take so long just to bring so many classics games. I don't know why they should even ignore it, they just don't have enough to put into. And if they did, hence, more sales.

QUOTE]
Three games developed by Rare have been released on Nintendo's Virtual Console service. They are the three Donkey Kong Country games originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System from 1994 to 1996. Rare stated on their website, "...it's ultimately Nintendo's decision what gets released (on VC). Beyond the DKC games, we don’t have anything in the pipeline at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't happen in future."

I guess that still means that Nintendo is taking quite a while to re-release Donkey Kong 64.
I also noticed that Nintendo is going to have a Donkey Kong 3DS, just saying since most of the 3Ds games are exclusives from the N64.
