My parents don't want me to get Black ops for some reason. I'm 16, and my brother has 4 M games for the PS2 and since he hasn't played PS2 for over 3 years, it's safe to assume he got them before he was 17 (He's 19 now) but my parents won't recognize that and they keep saying that "they didn't know about it" but I know they let him get it. Anyway, how can I convince my parents to let me get black ops?

They seem to be very firm on this, so it would be hard to convince them otherwise. When my youngest brother started discovering M-rated games, my parents were extremely hesitant to get them for him, even though when I was his age, they had no problem with it. it seems like you are the youngest, so that is even more of a hurdle. Your parents probably still see you as 'young' even though you are obviously not. I would recommend showing them a video of the game play (be careful to not show too many negative things), and explaining that you are only 2 years younger then the recommended age.
if that doesn't work, you could always ask a friend who has an older sibling or a willing parent to get it for you.If you add me on PSN, please say you are from here!

Tell them that there is an option to disable overtly violent graphics (there is) and you'll disable them. Core gameplay will remain the same, you just won't get to see people's brains getting blown out literally.
Of course if they still say no then you're stuck..

I downloaded two trailers to show my mom (she's the real problem here, I'm sure my dad would be fine with it if my mom's influence wasn't upon him) but she was like "no, I don't want to see them!" I'll figure out a way to show her. And I didn't know you could disable overtly violent graphics...I'll tell her that.

Looks like you may be striking out here bud, your parents seem pretty firm about it unfortunately =/. Like someone has said before, since you are the younger one it can have a psych effect on them (this happened to my younger bro) and parents 5 years ago were not always concerned about the content of video games. Now, parents are bit more knowledgeable (or stubborn depending how you look at it) and restrict stuff.
Best thing to do is probably tell her there's an option to tone down the violence, and you understand the difference between whats in game and what is happening in the real world. I got my brother Halo when he was younger at ~14, my parents didn't like it cuz of the violence, but I told them it was so he could play with his friends (had my bro tell them too about he understands the difference between gaming and real life shooting). Overall though, do not take it like your parents are super lame and get overly frustrated with them about it. They are just concerned about what you are playing. If you were to go to real war, come back alive, you may not even wanna touch a war game - this is coming from personal friends who have been in the fire zone.

Can't you just buy it behind their backs?. I used to do that back then when I was your age. Although I don't know where you live since there are laws against younger audiences buying M rated games without parental supervision.
Although I don't encourage this. If your parents are very serious about this then I don't want you to get in trouble over something I suggested. Play it cool for now and once you're 17, go out and buy the games you love.

You'll dislike me for this but good. I'm happy they won't buy you the game because it shows they're actually doing their job of proper parenting by adhering to the rating on the front of game. your not old enough to play it so they see it that way. I wish more parents where like yours though then people would have to hear (not saying you do it too) immature kids screaming down the headset

^^ +1. Think of something more positive to do to with your time. Don't get me wrong I love to play games, but I wish I had never started. I have put far too many hours into computer games when there is nothing really rewarding at the end of it. I'm sure im not the only one that has blown off mates or whatever to stay in and play a game.

actually, when I told my dad that you can turn off overtly violent graphics, he said maybe I could get it. He just has to talk about it w/ my mom. So hopefully!!
I could buy it online on Amazon or maybe eBay because they don't check age on eBay or Amazon. I've bought knives online even w/ my parents permission and the site didn't check age. But even if I did get it, I wouldn't be able to play it because my parents would see me playing a shooting game and they would know I have it. The main TV is in the family room, which is where the PS3 is, so it's very open and they would know. So that doesn't work.
But it's stupid. Everything in the game can be found elsewhere. Have you been to a high school recently? Everyone cusses like it's okay now and it's just "the norm." I'm not gonna start cussing more just because I hear some cussing in CoD: BO....and violence I can see in most movies. There's no sex or nudity or anything like that, so idk why she's so worried...
But games are fun! Hard work pays off in the future, but procrastination pays off now! That's the motto I live by
haha
But anyway, I do computery stuff too. Some of the stuff I do is kind of helpful for my future where I'll learn stuff. I run a forum, I'm trying to learn PHP, and other junk I guess...I spend my time in somewhat good ways...:þ

Your 16. Imho, you shouldn't be playing it. Otherwise the M wouldn't be there, but trust me when I say, you do not want black ops. Buy something else.

Just talk to them and say it's exactly like a movie, except this even has less violence than most 16+ movies. Ask your dad to play the game with you.

well if your brother is 19, then he's more then old enough. so ummm go there? and if they ask how you got it? tell them santa brought it then smile to yourself as they have a look of dis-belief on their face. or wait until your 17 when they can't do anything about it.

You're 16, there's a reason you shouldn't be playing it. I would've done the same as you at one point, but I'm a parent now so can understand and appreciate why they put mature ratings on certain products. I wouldn't want my daughter exposed to graphic violence like that featured in Black Ops. It can be disabled, sure, but it could easily be re-enabled and I wouldn't want that risk. Nor would I want her exposed to such moronic people online. There's no extreme violence on there but, c'mon, the crap people talk on there - no way in hell would I let my child play an 18+ videogame until she's 18 or older. Just respect your parents wishes, man, they're looking out for you

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

Besides the point, dude. Your under age.
At the end of the day parents complain that the violence in games are too much then they try and get them banned. Your parents are part of the rare few (so be thankful for having good parents) that pay attention to the rating on a box. They're there for a reason. If the certification board thought you was old enough they would have made it a 15. But your clearly not so they made it an 18.
I'm all for not letting youngsters play games. Theres nothing i hate more than angry teenager screaming down the headset at me.
Edit - Jaeger hit the nail on the head.I Like Games.

I would say you shouldn't be playing it but I would be a hypocrite since I was playing M/18 rated games when I was 8. I will say is that they're doing you a favour in not getting that broken mess.

How do we convince you to buy something else other than BO? BO is complete trash at the moment. Not worth the effort that goes in convincing someone. If you must buy MW2. It has its problems but it's much better than the piece of crap that BO is right now. And I highly doubt it will be fixed. Frame rate drops this late can't be fixed unless I am wrong.

Black Ops is my favorite Call of Duty game in the last 4 years. The frame rate issue that you see can be fixed with a patch. The latest patch sort messed things up for online players right now but Treyarch is working on another patch. Single player is still very very good as is the zombie games.

Congrats to your parents number one, but the valid argument would be to turn off the blood/ violence filter @ the start of the game. As long as you are responsible enough to adhere by the rules and agree to your parents wishes... you would be set.
Or they bought it for you for x-mas and don't want you getting it before then and they are just messing with you.

Are you a parent? I pray to God you're not.
Telling him it's only a game does nothing. You're still exposing him to scenes of violence which he shouldn't be seeing until he's at least 16. You might think you're not doing him any harm, but he's only 8. He still doesn't know the difference between right and wrong. Showing scenes of torture will only corrupt and confuse him. I'd never show scenes like that to my daughter, even with the violence toned down.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

If by the time one hits 16 and the perent/s has little to no trust in you to know the difference between right and wrong, fiction and reality... then they have done a poor job parenting you. Just because the game is rated M does not mean a 16 year old isn't mature enough to play the game moderately. Everyone has and or will be expose to violance... its every where and parents who try to nerf everything around their kids are only delaying ones maturity to understand the difference between right and wrong.
