I was going to ask you about your progress. What about muscle gains? What is your overall body composition like now?

not sure- but we have a hydrostatic(?) body comp testing coming to our gym soon... so I'll get a decent estimate.

I've been taking before/after pics... definitely see results in the face, shoulders, arms, gut, and back...

still a work in progress... would very much like to lose another 10lbs by spring.
that coupled with muscle mass should result in a pretty fun summer

    Good to hear.

Pretty much all of my lower back pain has gone away ever since I fixed my squat form a couple weeks ago. I'm doing low-bar squats, and you're supposed to drive up with your butt first, but I was moving my chest up first. That makes you strain your lower back. I also had the bar too high on my back. I lowered it to the correct spot and now the weight is centered much better.

Would you guys recommend the hydroxycut drink packages. The one you put in water? I am not saying all the time, but once a day or so.

Dinners are still killing me. I eat a very well balanced lunch and breakfast, but dinner always butchers my caloric intake and pretty much ruins my day.

:/ You can try having something like a fish fry? It's good for you and if seasoned right tastes awesome. I don't think fish has a lot of calories does it?

The good thing about me and eating right is this. 1. I know I shouldn't eat too much sweet stuff 2. I was going to have a slice of chocolate cake earlier but didn't because I tried to (not very hard) open the plastic thing it was in, couldn't and said "Forget it! I can't open the stupid thing!" Or I'd think "Ugh....I'll have to wash that dish then if I eat that... nope! forget it..." My laziness helps me.

That's actually pretty brilliant. Problem with me is that my mother literally thinks I'm losing too much weight, and therefore, thinks I'm developing an eating disorder or something.

And everyone at school has been commenting on me as being thinner... but I really don't see it. It's really hard when I feel like progress needs to be made, and everyone else feels I've already gotten there.

2012 has been good so far. I got a free george foreman grill and got a rice cooker. It's now super easy to make nice healthy dinners, breaky and lunches are also going well. I am eating a LOT cleaner, working out 4 days a week and starting the week just past, I am working one way to work (40 mins direct through the heart of the city center). If I keep this up, I'll see better results in no time.

I'm trying to bulk up, so I'm just trying to eat as many calories as possible! I'm eating a meatball marinara sub from Subway as we speak...

I know you're supposed to have about 500 calories over your maintenance, but that's usually where I end up anyway.

i once bulked up to 16% bodyfat, never again

i don't believe in bulking up/gaining fat then cutting. i stay shredded 24/7, 365 days a year. once i reach 12% just cut back down to 10% and repeat. in other words bulk for 3-4 months (200-300 calories over BMR) then cut for 2-3 weeks depending on fat gains.

I'm not in on this hydroxycut discussion, but if you're going to come into a thread and rebut a claim, it's probably best to back that up with some evidence. Just saying hydroxycut is unhealthy for you isn't really going to convince anyone.

As for bulking up... What's the logic in that? I've heard bits about people doing it before, but never knew the reasoning behind it. Do share!

Well to gain muscle you have to have a slight caloric surplus because your muscles require it. Some people take it over the top though, and use it as an excuse to stuff their face and instead of muscle they're gaining fat. The best way is to eat healthy, but more.

I say with bulking people should just up their carbs and when cutting they should lower 'em. The proteins should stay high all year long.

    Schaffin~

Hydroxycut can cause damage to the heart, kidneys, and liver as well as mild anemia. This is caused by two things: a dangerous drug known as Ephedrine and the large amount of several different metabolic stimuli.

I would imagine so. Hell, I'd probably use it as an excuse. Probably not the thing for me at this point, but something I might take into consideration later on. I really do need to build muscle.

Do those subs have a lot of calories? I'm trying to up the calories but it only really worked for about a week when we had lots of left over food I could eat. I was eating big portions frequently. But now and other times when there aren't a lot of left overs I have a hard time finding enough to eat. I don't count calories but something like 2500 to 3000 for somebody active is good I think.

It's hard now that school has started up again. I can't have anything that I need to heat up on campus unless I'd like to strap a microwave to my back. I know I'm not getting as many calories as I'd like. Lots of people steer away from high calorie food but I need that.

You gotta start snacking man, try and have small meals every couple of hours and you'll get around. Great for your metabolism too.

Yeah, but most lifters will tell you to go all out on your initial bulk, then after you cut down, you just start doing what you're doing. That's my plan.

    This made me laugh hysterically.

So you can gain muscle you silly goose! Yes, you will gain some fat as well, but once you cut down a for a month or two, all your muscle will be revealed and you'll look shredded like our friend x6Teen.

I generally eat healthy, but getting the calories in is also very important, so I'll say about one meal a day involves either a couple cheeseburgers, a foot long meatball sub, etc. I don't drink soda or eat any crappy snacks though. As mentioned before, all I snack on are nuts and milk! And protein bars I guess.

Yeah, that's basically what happens, since you want to cut calories, but maintain protein. Carbs usually take the fall.

There's over 1,000 calories in one of those subs. A six inch is 480 calories, and that's without anything extra, such as cheese and vegetables.

here's one of the most successful bulks/cut i've seen. his bulk went for 2-3 years then cut for 1 year i think.
