Reputation System Introduction
vBulletin's user reputation system provides a way of rating users based on the quality of their posts. Users on the forums can add reputation points from other users by clicking the reputation link in their posts.
User reputations allow the users in your community to tell vBulletin which users are quality and which users are not. And in response to user feedback, vBulletin has the ability to label and reward users for the quality of their posts, as is indicated by their reputation.
Your Reputation points total is displayed in your UserCp.
Reputation Power
Your Reputation Power is the number of points you give when you rep someone else, and is calculated as follows;
Your Reputation Power is;
• One point for every 600 posts you have made.
• One point for every 400 points of reputation you have.
• One point for each 50 days you have been a member.
For a rep to count you must have at least 10 points, and have made at least 10 posts.
You can give a maximum of 3 reputation "hits" per 24 hour period, and must rep at least 10 different people before you can rep the same person again (Administrators are exempt from these two limits).
A number oflight blue & dark blue pips are used to show other users your reputation level. The first 3 pips are light blue, the next 3 are dark blue then the next 3 are gold and then finally 1 purple = 3 light blue + 3 dark blue + 3 gold.
Giving Rep
The colored pips you see below avatars are part of a feature on the forums that allows you to rate members for their posts. Everyone starts off with 10 reputation points by default, and then other members can add to or subtract from your points by clicking the reputation icon shown in your posts. To see how many points you have, and also any comments people have left, check your User CP. If you haven't had any ratings yet, nothing will be shown, but if you have you'll see icons like these:
The amount of points you give or take from a member when rating them is known as your "reputation-altering power."
Finally, your reputation has no effect on your activities on the forums, so don't take it seriously.
Rating Pip Points Breakdown
Each pip in it's color group has a set value.
The ranks work as follows:0-49 - 1 Light Blue pip
50-99 - 2 Light Blue pips
100-149 - 3 Light Blue pips
150-399 - 3 Light Blue pips + 1 Dark Blue pip

A Purple commendation pip means = all 9 pips unlocked (or 2400 rep)

Hmmm... Not the simplest idea. But this can help in choosing future Mods and SMC by post quality.
Still not too sure though =PMade by Coolio cuz he owns.

I really like this idea of reputation. Everyone should be able to see how many reputation points each member has. Is that possible?

I get it, so Reputation points really has nothing to do with reputation power.
Rep points advance you in that little green pip thing and shows how good a poster you are while the Reputation power is more along the lines of how how you have been around.
The concept is pretty cool.
Also, it seems that being part of a public group (mod, SMC DS) gives you one Reputation power too...

I think its a good idea to a point. I would never do this and hopefully no one else would, but if someone has a grudge or just wants to be immature, they could rate other users badly. Or if users show favoritism towards others, it'll be unfair to the other users.
Don't mean to be negative, just something I thought of.

That would be hard to do. How would you know which user rated you?

Well just try not to have people hold a grudge towards you, either way its fair, if you did something to them I guess its fair? >>; and if people like you then its fair again?

I'm not worried about it at all, just thought it was worth mentioning. Like you said, they probably already thought of this.
Edit: So you only see a reputation is someone has rated you? (There's nothing on my CP)

I have over 1,000 posts and I still don't have any posts
Or maybe I didn't read that right?
EDIT: O wait, I DO have points
I never noticed that... cool
But still nothing is showing up under my user cp...Setup of a college gamer short on cash:
20GB PS3 (with 160GB HDD), Acer 22" Monitor, Logitech Z-2300 speakers with harmon/kardon rear speakers connected to a Creative X-fi 5.1 card, Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel, and a ton of racing games with a few FPSes sprinkled in.

Apparently, you (razorblade) are on a distinguished road!
(You can only see your own phrase thing in your user profile.)
I have a question: I currently have 6 reputation things in my user CP, yet only one of them counts, and that one gave me... 10 Rep. points. Does that mean that 5 of them were given to me by users with posts under 1000 (which means they have no rep. power)?

Okay, to add to peoples reputation, you click the star in the top right corner of the users post.
