How big do you think Kinect will be.

How big with the sales already and the experience of positive feedback it has had.
Will it take over the Wii as the move has no look in since its new and just touching the surface of being a great motion option. I believe since the Wii has had the title as the main motion king for a long time. How does Kinect stand up to the winner of nintendo's top seller. I see kinect doing what it does best past of games that hopfully work as well as the people that play them. Since the release and the dreaded and hope of faillure of the new system, makes it a winner when it plays to the gamers and wins them over. I know Microsoft's promotion of it has done wonders for the sales of games and 360's over the a many months already. When fable 3 came out it has the ability to use kinect and to be honest it failed because it was not fully used to its full ability and it hurt the experience of the game a tiny bit. The games that came after have the full use of kinect and they alone will sell it to the gaming world. I do not hope or want it to be a winner, for i do not care either way. Because if its a standard gaming experience or a motion experience its still going to be an experience none the less

It wont over take the Wii.

But for a casual device it'll be good. I just hope it doesnt become the standard next gen. x.x

one believes it will. As the Wii is a standard system and it will be for the Wii 2

So to be truthful i hope it is as the new gen will bring new challenges for the companies to bring out all new next kinect gen games

It will have the "Wii" effect. But die off alot quicker, IMO. & I know my younger brothers only one person. But he's a video game attic. And day 2 he won't even play it.

Unless of course. They make it like a vr body suit for FPS. Cause we all know how big FPS have gotten. Like recognize your upper body or something

I don't think that's the general case -- granted it has been praised across the gaming spectrum and has sold as many units as it has.

Although I haven't gotten my hands on a Kinect myself, I don't think we'll see the same thing that happened with this happen with the Wii. While the Wii was by no means bad, it seemed to lose the initial spark it had not far after the release; what with various issues in using the Wii-mote I think a lot of initial fans were turned off. That being said, the Wii was by no means a failure for Nintendo -- though I would have said the same not too long ago.

The Kinect and Move are in my mind the second generation of motion control (leaving out the Six Axis). I think Sony and Microsoft have learned from what happened with Nintendo, and with their larger variety of titles I think we'll see the Move and Kinect carry on much longer than the Wii.

It's honestly hard to tell. I think it'll be a monster success among the casuals with fitness and dance games. But for the core gamer ? not so sure because it has a noticable lag and is limited with the controls.

If incorporated with hardcore games right, it could take off. 2011 will tell a lot of what's gonna happen with kinect i guess.

I'm afraid that this will be "new way of gaming". I seriously do not like this whole focus that you need to move to do things. I just want to sit and play, not jump and wave my hands or controller(s).
It's huge right now, but I really do not know how long people will keep their interest in this.

I think it's going to do very well sales wise for some time. But I'm more interested in what people who already own it will do with it after say a year. I know a LOT of people who bought into the Wii, but now don't touch it because they would rather chill to play video games. The physical fun factor ran out after a while. I think Kinect has a lot of potential, but the longer term stuff to me would be for fitness, dancing, and quick party games. I've got to wonder about the people who want to control a UI with their body though. That's the last thing I want to do after a long day of work. If you want to do that, throw your remote control away to your TV. Voice commands are cool, but man.... I guess I work harder than others and am more tired at the end of the day. LOL

Not physically straining to wave your hand in front of you.
Its just a more novel and engaging experience.

    how big will it get...
I think MS would be shooting for 20 million by the end of this year.

Not straining, but totally pointless. Why do people want a more engaging experience navigating menus? That's my point. I can see games, but a UI? Will using my arms speed up the whole process? I'm not sure it's worth taking several steps back with speed for a novel way of doing things. I don't feel like having my arms in the air when I'm tired and manually flipping through something when a button can do the same thing at probably 5x the speed at least. I don't feel the need to use a big spoon and take 5xs as long to mix something when I can just use a hand blender.

I think for a lot of things, people are going to be" this is cool!"

After a while though, they will be "why are we doing this again? Does this even make sense? Couldn't it be much faster doing it with buttons?"

Yep, Kinect is going to be popular for a long time as long as developers keep pushing the tech in new and interesting ways. It will have the same lasting impression as the Wii because Kinect has acquired the exact same audience.

Kinect won't experience much of a popularity outside of casual experiences, though. I feel like Kinect will continue to have its place only in parties, fitness simulators, and other such special occasions. Why? Because those who like to play traditional games tend to do it because it's a leisurely activity. Most of them aren't going to be any further immersed with motion controls...nor are they going to care much about having to work harder to play the same game. They like the accuracy and diversity of buttons inputs.

Kinect will last because it has taken an extreme in the concept of motion gaming. It's a device made specifically for casual play and it achieves that end. Dedicated Xbox owners and the non-gamer alike will have a party now and then, so Kinect will be a must-own for anyone. Devs can try as much as they want with core games, but casual experiences are where its relevance will remain.

Kinect will also last because it has separated itself from Move. Move will do well with giving core gamers the incremental addition of motion controls that they're looking for and Kinect will hold down the casual front.

I think im in the minority here that thinks Kinect can be just as relevent to hardcore as it can for the party game loving casuals.

not saying controling the GUI is faster and easier than buttons but it is new and interesting, and i do feel that its more of an engaging experience than the standerd left/right buttons

I think its still new, and that kinect is going to keep pushing that envelope. Not that MS are the only one doing new things but its great to see them staying focused on their new hardware and getting support from the community and
    3rd party devs.

seeing things like RUSE support and is promising

Kinect is definitely not hurting anyone, if anything its growing the gaming industry and continuing to push whats possible with this hobby of ours.

Kinect will be as good as it's games. Right now there's nothing that tells me i need Kinect.

For casuals i think Kinect will really take off. Maybe more so than the Wii. We'll see.

I reserve judgement on how big it can be for when they start putting out some controller+Kinect games. Right now, it only get used when we have people over and drinks are involved.

    i think its different.

a lot of the boredom for me with the Wii was the fact that it didnt offer very much variation. You didnt have to stand up to play the wii, you could sit down and just flick your wrist. It got boring for me for this very reason.

Kinect however, you are using your whole body movements as a means for control, not just some gimmicky controller. The amount of variation possible on Kinect is impressive, and will definitely serve as a means of longetivity for the device. i.e, it wont get boring quickly.

I have noticed that Kinect is already starting to die off. I asked my friends if they are still rocking out the Kinect and they all said they have not used it in weeks. They basically said it suffers from the Wii syndrome. Fun for a week or two then it became boring. Kinect needs better games for sure.
