    Help with Partitioning A HDD

Hey guys I need some help with partitioning my harddrive. I searched the net for about a week without finding a good solution. I was planing on dividing my harddrive into two drives and that way I'll be able to install Linux without deleting my XP. It would be nice if someone can show me how to accomplish this step by step if possible.

I also have a questions about running these programs. For example will I need to run my XP inorder to use my Linux or will I be able to use one of my OS without having to use the other one?
I am not bothered by the fact that I am unknown. I am bothered when I do not know others.

Cool, I know partition magic will allow you to partition your HDD when an OS is already installed. So I cant help you there, sorry.

On to the other part, after your HDD is partitioned, you install Linux adn it has its own partition program right in the installation that allows you to decide how large it is and it auto detects WinXp(as well as any other OS) and will not allow you to just erase it(it would give you a warning if you tried). You can easily tell because it bases the partitions off of HDD blocks. You will have no problem here.

The OS'es will run independantly of eachother. When setting up the partition from the installation, you can setup a swap partition which means you can put stuff in the "file"nd access it from eithr OS, this is cool for passing files back and forth.

If you get really into it, there is a program called "xwine" for Linux which allows you to emulate your Windows OS right from Linux(you can do like verything with the Win OS).

Anyways, sorry I cant help you with seperating the drive when an OS is installed.

Thanks for the advice. I herd that magic partitioner is a good program to use but I wanted to attempt doing it with a XP program instead. Is there any program that comes with XP that lets you do that.
