Started recently transcoding 1080p videos. My Q6600 at 3.2GHz shows it's age. I want an i7.

If you were to sell that, how much would do you think it would go far? I have a laptop that has similar configuration minus the GPU (I have an ATI one.)

You do realize there are things that an older laptop can offer that a $400 laptop will never be able to.

    For example? GPU?
people getting laptops are hardly after graphical power anyways. I maybe missing something here.

Obviously some people do, hence the need to for companies to put the beefy GPU's in the damned things.

    It originally had a T2200 I think... 1.8ghz. I upgraded it for $42 to a T8300 @ 2.4ghz. This laptop has a second hdd bay, can be upgraded to a x9000 c2 Extreme cpu....

Show me a $400 laptop that has that versatility.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking / hoping for -- I've asked around and I've never been good at getting the price just right so thought I'd ask on here.

    LOL at the GPU.

I use my PC for Photoshop, a media server and just generally searching the tinterweb with the intention of gaming when I've got the cash to upgrade the Graphics Card, i am limited by the physical size of the Graphics Card i can use being a ITX case and I'm thinking of a Windows 7 upgrade...Maybe

I miss PC gaming so much but it just got to expensive to keep upgrading all the time.

Yes, because you are the be all end all authority on the subject.

The laptop I'm typing this response on qualifies for several of those reasons.

    As does my fathers laptop.

If you plan out your builds properly you can get them to play games decently for 3 possibly 4 years. Longer if you can live with console quality graphics.
