Its rare I use my DVD drive these days, last time I sued to to insatll anything was BF3 Last December before that I have no idea I just buy more hard drives to back up stuff nowadays or at least did when they were cheap as chips.

yeah man it's quite ironic. Luckily it's only my E: drive so i'll just have to format and (hopefully) it should be good to go!

Pick this sucker up and use these BD-R's and you'll be sorted. I use this combination and it's fantastic, got almost all of my Steam backups on 7 discs and that's some 320+ games. Because the discs have a blank label on the top you can directly print to them in a printer too.

Well, i've got it working now it was my secondary drive that corrupted but I had everything and i mean everything saved on that drive from Steam games to over ?200 worth in MP3's that i haven't backed up in a few months! Hopefully there will be a way for me to get them back but at the moment i'm just counting my losses.

I do plan on buying a new CPU/MOBO in the coming months though

Sigh...it was a good desktop ~5 years ago :P, it can still run most of the games that come out(obviously with some visual sacrifice).

just put together my first pc build this past weekend(w/ alot of help from my co-worker). but first, my previous pc that i had... an HP Pavilion a250n, ran with a 2.6ghz Intel Pentium 4 (hyperthreaded), an NVIDIA GeForce 4 mx 440 weith 64mb ddr memory,a 512mb ddr sdram memory, and came with 2 optical drives (a cd reader and a dvd read/write), with a 120gb hddfor total storage. had that sucker for over 10 years...i was definately due for an upgrade. with my build now, i'm running the Intel i7 2600k at stock 3.4ghz with a xfxR7970 3gb core graphics card on the asus maximus iv gene z/ gen 3 MoBo, 16gb 4x4 ddr memory, a 120 ssd boot drive with 500gb storage. power supply is a corsair ax850 and the cpu is liquid cooled with a corsair h80. everything is being kept cool in the corsair 600t case. as soon as we finished putting it together, i slapped on Starcraft 2 just to get a glimpse of what kind of gaming rig this would turn out...right off the bat (witrh everything set to ultra or the highest possible), i was getting from the lowest fps of 80 to the highest at 130fps but consistently averaging around 100fps(my coworker downloaded fraps). he then tried out BF3 on his origin account and was getting high 50s to low 60s, lowest it got was 44fps and highest was 73fps (everything was set at ultra or highest possible). so pretty happy with what i got so far. in the future, i'll be waiting to see how the new ivy bridge processors work out and more than likely Xfire my gpu.

"The biggest adversary in our life is ourselves. We are what we are, in a sense, because of the dominating thoughts we allow to gather in our head. All concepts of self-improvement, all actions and paths we take, relate solely to our abstract image of ourselves. Life is limited only by how we really see ourselves and feel about our being. A great deal of pure self-knowledge and inner understanding allows us to lay an all-important foundation for the structure of our life from which we can perceive and take the right avenues.

You'll be wasting money on 7970. 7950 performs almost aswell in a much less cost. Plus you can get Overclocked versions of 7950 aswell.
