Ivy bridge use less power, with the same die size and frequencies. How can they get hotter? Maybe because the graphics take up a much larger part of the die now I guess

The article I read was in brief but if you google it you can find a few sites that say when overclocked it does get hotter than S.B, I didnt in anyway say that its fact did it.

Well I got everything now installed except the dam Corsair liquid cooler I didnt realise how bloody big the thing was so I need a new case I've seen a real nice PC case with the PSU at the bottom should be alright to install it, the issue is really the pipes aint as flexible as I would of liked but they do hold water in so thus why they are that strong.
But you need to install a FAN in the front of the place radiator behind that then another fan at the back to drag air in according to the set-up guide ???? when I get to install it I'll try both ways. Got 7.9 across the board nearly the 2600k only gives me 7.6 but I aint got turbo mode enabled I will once cooler is installed.

I have an XFX 6870 and its freaking loud even when idling. I hve to turn the fan down to 30% when browsing and remeber to turn it up when gaming. Sham AMD do not include custom fan profile settings.

I'm rubbish with computer specs, can someone help me find the best laptop I can get for under £1000 (Preferably not over £800)?
Basically I need as powerful a beast that comes under that price range. I do have a desktop, though it is pretty outdated (2007) and my current laptop is a Dell Studio from 2008.
What you need to know is I am a Computer Animation student. I need to run lots of graphic intensive software like Maya, 3dsMax and ZBrush. My current laptop runs these fine, though the render times are pretty abysmal and as I am creating more and more intensive things it is starting to crash more and more altogether. It is also starting to overheat quite quickly, so I am scared its on its last legs.
Any advice. (I need a laptop because I travel so much and I am a student).Trophy-licious!

I would just upgrade the desktop and use that for the rendering you could have loads of RAM overclock it to heck and it still run cooler than a laptop and be cheaper.
My guress is your laptop runs out of memory so crashes.Last edited by keefy; 06-11-2012 at 23:17.

I didnt think the GPU was used as much for browsing on mine below I can here fans but I think it's the stock cooler to the 2600k the 7850 is at 40 on mine which I think is bloody high and I only am browsing the web myself
Think I need some new fans but I am moving to a bigger case a full ATX tower with PSU at the bottom so I can then fit my H80 cooler currently it won't fit because the PSU at the top is too close to the the 120mm extractor spot on my current case plus it's a mid ATX one.

Try something like Sapphire's TriXX instead? You can map your own fan curve in it.
I just finished my budget build:
asrock z77 motherboard
i3-2120
8gb G.skill ripjaws
Corsair tx650 psu
xfx radeon 7850
Fractal Designs Define black pearl case
A samsung spinpoint tb drive.
The i3 will get ripped out and used in a budget build later for my mom or something, a sb 2500k will be swapped in with a watercooling solution. An ssd is also planned. In the meantime I can pc game again!
