Noticeable (substantially). In addition the card runs cooler and uses considerably less power. Also less noise!

So in all its a pretty large upgrade.

That's the best thing about the 6xx series, they're such a huge improvement over the 5xx series that I'm happy spending the money I did at launch. Runs even cooler and quieter than my 285GTX and that was really quiet!

As for me this is my current spec:
    • Case: Antec P180
    • Mobo: Asus M4A785TD-V Evo
    • CPU: Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition II
    • RAM: Corsair 8GB (4x 2GB)
    • GFX: KFA2 (BFG) GTX 680
    • PSU: Seasonix X-650
    • Sound: Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum
    • SSD: Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/64GB
    • HDD: Samsung HD7531J 750GB
    • BDRW: LG BH10LS30
    • Monitor: Samsung S23A700D (x3)

However I've just done a new upgrade and the parts should come tomorrow, going to be replacing the above in red with these:
    • CPU: Intel i7 3820
    • Mobo: Gigabyte X79-UD3 (Socket 2011)
    • RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz
    • Case: Antec P280
    • HSF: Arctic Cooling Freezer i30
    • SSD: Samsung 128GB 830
    • K/B: Logitech G19

All for £740 inc P&P, I think that means that I've spent £1500 this year on a completely new PC... Anyone want some parts or even have a cheap base PC from my old stuff?

I like the P280 case. Its got sleek simple lines and no stupid windows or vents.

Yeah it's an amazing case, really quiet too with 4 fans running around. At release it really was the best case ever and even now it's great, but for my needs now it's a bit cramped and you can't wire behind the chassis, other than that though I'd still recommend it to anyone.

Not sure if I'll make more money selling parts separately or just have a single build and sell it that way, at least then it'll be out of my way in one go.

I'm thinking about getting into to PC Gaming, can you build a good Gaming PC rig for £200-£300?
I'm not really a tech-savvy person when it comes to PC parts, I know about Ram, CPU, GPU.
But can't tell which parts are better than others when browsing online, there's so many!

Here's my current PC Specs, advice on which parts to upgrade would be great!

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro

    Motherboard : Acer em61sm/em61pm ( I think, that's what CPU-Z called it!)

    Ram: 2.5GB DDR2

Well I would start from scratch. You will also need more than 200-300£

I think £200-£300 is reasonable, I'm not looking to make a monster rig with the latest parts.
Just a upgrade from my old rig that I've had for 4+yrs.

I've pick these two parts out already for about £137

    Motherboard

    Processor

I'm also looking at the AMD Radeon HD 6850.

I'd rather spend it on a next gen console.

You are not him nor can you can't get into PC gaming with a next generation console.

He said he wanted to build a PC for around £300 so i pointed him in the direction of a good article about how to get into it for a low cost.

I can vouch for the 6850. Plays most games @1080p. Not at 60 fps (duh) but they're certainly playable.

The MB and CPU are good as well. You'll get a decent rig with these.
You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push!

Well a 300 pound pc isn't going to have anywhere near the longevity of a similarly priced console.....

    When did I say otherwise.

You're missing the point. He wants to get into PC Gaming. Regardless if he wants to spend £300 or £3000 he will still be in PC gaming and can upgrade at a later date as he see's fit.

If he buys the PS4/Nextbox it won't be doing what he has asked, introducing him into PC gaming.

I doubt the Next Gen Consoles will retail @ 300 on release unless they release stripped down versions of them.

Anyways for me while that Eurogamer article makes a 300 quid PC build sound good especially against the PS3/360, I would hold off till I could get a Quad Core CPU & beef up the GPU in that Euro Gamer build IMO ,it says there are sweet deals around for a GTX 460 so I would go for that as having that with a Quad Core CPU & 4GB RAM would put you Close to or Over the recommended Specs in most games which is where you want to Game at rather than @ Minimum Spec & it would last longer in the Long run in terms of Future proofing for newer games.

Perhaps not the playstation, but the 360 launched at 279 in the UK.

If he can't afford to buy the best or midrange of everything why shouldn't he buy what is in his budget? The article proves it is possible to play games on a budget PC at the level of the PS3/360 for relatively cheap on PC.

I doubt the OP is expecting he'll be playing games max settings and high resolutions for his price range but the point is he will be able to play games on the platform and be able to upgrade at a later date whenever he can afford it.

To be honest, the system I have now, while on paper doesn't look too great specs wise, has been able to play current-gen games on mid-high settings, with no noticeable framedrops.

I'm not really up for spending more than £300+ on a PC right now, because I can't really see the benefit.
I just want a more "modern" upgrade to my PC, something that I can better build upon later if I choose.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Is it even worth upgrading from an i7 920? Seems like I'm wasting my time thinking about it.
    Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.8GHz | Nvidia 660 ti | 6 GB Corsair Xms 1333 Mhz | 1 TB Seagate HDD | 250 GB WD HDD | Windows 7 Ultimate |

Judging by your internet speed your porn productivity is probably already very high.

I'm just curious about that rig because theres mass amounts of RAM, a budget video card and 2 SSD's.

The 660ti is not a budget card.
