So far I've bought my case, PSU, motherboard, RAM and CPU and I've spent around 1400 it'll all be worth it in the end though... Right?

It's not too bad though because I'm buying it in stages, but it certainly does make the wait painful lol. Just need the GPUs, a few SSD/HDDs and a copy of Windows 8 (I know...) then it'll be up and running (hopefully) in 2 and maybe 'finished' in 3 as I won't be buying both GPUs in the same month. Decided I'm going to have to delay water cooling right away since my loop was in the 600 region so once the PC is running for a few months then I'll go for the loop.

The wait is slowly killing me though. I've started hating my current even though it still plays most games pretty well at 1080p

Is that 1400 you've spent so far without what you've list or is that everything you have planned? That's a pretty good price if it's everything though but Windows 8?! Just stick to 7 and then move over to Linux when Steam picks up more on there.

Yeah that list is everything I currently own. By the time I've finished I could quite easily have spent the same again.

I don't really have a problem with windows 8 and I'm a big fan of the start up times lol. I would love love to to go Linux only but not enough games have support for it yet for me to fully commit to it

    Brains of PSU!

As you know i'm in the middle of building my new desktop! I originally planned to go fully watercooled right away however it will cost me the best part of 600 for my loop so i'm going to hold fire on that for a little bit, at least until I have all the components i want and i know that they are all running as they should be.

Obviously i need a CPU cooler to get my PC running once i have all the parts and i've been looking at two different air coolers

    the Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E

    or the Noctua NH-D14

Any of you guys have any experience with either two of these coolers. I'm leaning towards the Silver Arrow as i think it is a little bit smaller than the Noctua (and also cheaper) but i think both coolers will give me problems with the heatsinks on my memory.
I'm open to any suggestions really so any cooler that will work with the 2011 socket HOWEVER please don't recommend me any All in One or closed loop water-coolers as I only want this as a temporary fix until i build my complete custom loop .

Have you considered alternative designs? Like the fan on top heatsink, like this:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=HS-052-CM

    Or a slimmer traditional design:

The fan on top of the heatsink doesn't support the 2011 socket and while i would like a slimmer one for the time being I need it to be able to keep my chip cool and the 3930K gets very hot, even more so because it has 2 exta cores. Not sure if something that slim would give me decent results.

Well this is going to be the smallest (relatively) cooler that doesn't compromise on cooling performance :

That one looks quite decent actually. If i replace the stock fans with 2 better fans in push/pull it should perform a bit better. Tempted. As I said, it is only for a few months until i get all the bits for my watercooled loop.

Which watercooler were you planning on using?

Going for a custom loop, I don't think too much about the closed loop coolers.
Those are most of the parts of what I am getting. I'm still torn between either putting in a 420mm Radiator at the top of my case or having a 360mm radiator up top with another 240mm down the bottom. Depends on the temps really, I may even go 420mm up top and still gave a 240mm down the bottom.

A few things are missing out of the basket such as GPU blocks (~115 each, i'll need at least 2) and other fixings but you can get an idea of it.

Might as well wait for the 8000 series cards in the fall. Or jump ship to Nvidia.

I looked at Nvidia but their top-end cards are far too expensive.

Ain't that the truth. Still, i don't think I could go with AMD again.

The GTX 760/760Ti should be comparably priced to the 7950.

Thanks man! 3 weeks until I can order my GPU!

If you've been following the thread you would be able to see i'm being indecisive now it's almost finished. I'm torn between the EVGA GTX780 Superclocked and the EVGA Hydrocopper GTX780

I plan on watercooling my GPUs eventually so part of me is thinking I should buy the Hydro copper card as it'll save me a bit of money in the long run (plus the block looks so nice and it even lights up; PC porn points right there) and it means i wont have to fit the block myself and it'll always be within warranty.

So confused! In a few posts down i bet i'll be posting pictures of my newly bought HD7990

Thanks man! Still needs a bit of work though, wondering if I left enough space in the tube run for my GPUs so I might need to run it again

It's really weird hearing the pump whirl up when you first turn it on. The sound of water pumping around the box will take some getting used to
I've ran it for an hour so far and no leak. Gonna leave it over night soon and see how it does. Fingers crossed

Was fed up of seeing it all in different boxes so i just wanted to put it together!

Yeah... I didn't realize how big my GPU was when I got it... pretty much spanned across my entire motherboard almost touching the drives on the other side of the case, lol. I had to move some wiring around for it to fit, but it's all good.

What GPU(s) did you settle on? Or did I miss that? :3
