The moment many have been waiting for -- the firmware 2.71 downgrader is now officially out, thanks to Dark_AleX, Mathieulh, and NOPx86 for the discovery and effort in exploiting the libTiff vulnerability (from which the code is executed through).
You might be asking yourself why you should downgrade.
As you might know, Firmware 1.5 is the golden firmware; it lets you run homebrew (user created apps/games/emulators) programs via the XMB.
If you want to see your PSP make use out of every penny you had spent towards it, then you should consider downgrading.
But wait, what about the newer games that will need an updated PSP, you ask? The simple solution is DevHook - the PSP Firmware emulator that can emulate any firmware up to 2.71 (all you need for now). DevHook can also launch usermade apps (like remaPSP, which lets you remap the PSP's control and add macro's, MP3 plug-in which lets you listen/select your MP3's while browsing any other menu/internet, playing you UMD's, and much more!).
You can add a 'custom firmware' that skips the boot intro when you turn your PSP on, or enable your USB to always be activated. The custom firmware also lets you use key shortcuts; for instance, you can hold the L button while booting to load FW 2.71 (emulated), or make it boot another program upon startup.
There are multitudes of applications available: PDF/TXT readers (I recommend Bookr), WMV/AVI/WAV/etc viewer/player, etc.
There are also many, many emulators available: SEGA GENESIS/SMS, NES, SNES, GBA, and CPS1/CPS2, just to name a few (see all the emulators here).
I don't want to sound like some preacher that just came by to introduce you to his church, but those that don't have homebrew are definitely missing out!
If you have any questions installing games and such on your memory stick, just PM me or add me to MSN/email me @ killzone@gmail.com.

1) the eloader is a program that enables us to run games ( iso's ) from memory stick right?
2) why doesn't this eloader mess up our psp and the downgrader does?
3) does the eloader have the same features as the downgrader?

No the eLoader enables the use of homebrew on later versions, although there isn't one for 2.71 yet and usually the use of homebrew is more limited where as 1.5 you can use all homebrew.
But imo it is not worth the risk bricking your PSP, especially not for me, why would i want to downgrade when im gonna need to upgrade for the PS1 emulator?
Also the "article" link leads to the QJ download page m8
.
lol. Also, as mentioned above, Mathieulh & Dark_Alex did brick several of their PSP's during the initial testings. If you feel like donating to their cause, you can do so here. (Also, mad props to Xairu and Birdman for their bravery in testing the downgrader, as well as joshrulez2 who was the first tester - and the first brick!)

When you brick your PSP you can reset it right? Or is it permanently dead?

If its bricked, then its gone. Hoiwever, if you get a mod chip, you can revive it

Hopefully they will hack FirmWare 2.80 too and release an eLoader for it, because I don't want to downgrade to FirmWare 1.5. (Due the chance of bricking my PSP)

What does bricked mean? And if that other happens to me when I get a PSP what do you do to get your PSP back or whatever to get whatever bricked is away and off your PSP.
Lol... does it mess up the graphics or everything i nthe PSP or what, lol.

Bricked means: That your PSP is broken, and that you can't use it anymore.

I had 2.6 and i downgraded. I hated 1.5, it has NOTHING. Now with devhook, i will downgrade if they can emulate 2.8

So what? We can use a load of crappy programs, and play illegal games, which will eventually drive the PSP out of buisness if they carry on hacking new firmware

Whats your problem ShotokanTiger?

Why do they keep making downgraders? Why can't they just make homebrew for each firmware?

eventually there will be an eloader , but unless you dont mind having to wait 5 minutes untill you are actually playing the rom , then just downgrade , and use devhook which will give you 1.50 + 2.71

You are just too funny. Does kissing Sony's arse make you feel holy?
Load of crappy programs? Which ones? There are many programs out there that add greater functionalities to your PSP than what your firmware came with: map viewer (gps), PDF/TXT reader, Memory Stick management (file browser), DivX/AVI player, and much, MUCH more.
Sorry to say, but homebrew enthusiasts won't bring Sony down. We only make up a small slice of all PSP owners.
What makes 2.80 so great, anyway?
