I'll buy it at $300. I wish I didn't have to though. I feel its a little high. I definitely don't want a 3g one though.

$249 so £154.
Hmm I expect to pay double that. It probably will be the $249 in the land of America but in England, we get ripped off. I expect £250-£300. Of course, if you are reading Sony, make it cheaper please. 2011 is expensive enough.

well what if it turns out to be $199.99, that would be even sweeter!
plus sony said they will be making a loss on every ngp sold, so i would conclude that my prediction is feasible

Not a bad price, i was thinking it could go as high as 400 so hopefully this is right.
Either way im not getting it day 1 though, maybe next year.
Weddings are expensive *sigh*
EDIT: Just realised it's placeholder is next year... ignore that last part...

Very unlikely, take the PS3 for example, Sony were losing on each console when it was selling for 599$
my guess would be 299$, cost of production is probably 350-400 the first 8-12 months.
But the topic stating that as a fact is a bit misleading, specially since its only taken from retailer.
Once more into the fray.

I've changed the thread title so it's a little clearer that at the moment, this is just a rumour and it's not been confirmed.

I thought Sony stated they want to remain profitable per unit?
Also I don't imagine the PSP2 costs an extravagant amount to make (like 400$ or something). Look at the iTouch and other portables which are fairly close to within the PSP2's tech range. Those sell for 215 and Apple is most definitely making a large profit per unit, so if Sony IS selling at a loss I don't think it will be anything greater than something like 20-40$ (ballpark).
But again, I thought Tretton (or someone) said that they wanted to make money off the games and units.

I don't consider this bad at all... It's the same as a 32gb iTouch.

I'd get it for $300. Just curious about the data plans required for the 3G.

It would be a bold move by some Network companies to offer the PSP2 on a contract. Orange have just started it with the iPad for it's 3G service. Then again, it's not really a gaming machine.

You mean offer it at a lower price (don't think they would offer it for free with the contract)? Somewhere around $100 off (depending on how much the 3G version of the NGP costs) for a 12 or 24 month contact?
Is the monthly fee higher when you get the plan with the iPad?
I would personally like to see some providers offer prepaid 3G plans for the NGP. Similar to what Virgin Mobile has. They offer a prepaid unlimited 3G plan for just $40/month (they have cheaper plans that are not unlimited).
This way if you're at home you can just use the WiFi instead of worrying about paying a monthly fee for the 3G service. If you go on a trip or something where you won't have access to WiFi you can just buy a 1 month prepaid 3G plan.
Gamestop had the price of the 3DS at $999 when they started taking preorders (instore only) before Nintendo announced the US price. Which makes me question why they would offer NGP preorders at $299 before Sony announces the price unless they have a good reason to believe this is what it will cost.Last edited by Ryunosuke; 02-10-2011 at 11:06.

The price of the system initially will limit how many games I buy initially. @$299, i'll get one, $249, two, and so forth.

Sounds good to me.
I'm hoping there are a lot more PSP sales on the PlayStation Store. I want to beef up my digital library.

So if it really is going to be 299, I'm most likely going to buy one on launch (unless there is NO games which interest me at all, of course).
