    HDMI cable melted.

Bought an HDMI cable for my cousin. It literally melted when we plugged it in. Lasted about a week. Trying to figure out why it did that. Now, I'm thinking about actually buying a monster. I've seen some for ten dollars when I see sales.

The ish just melted with the gold plated stuck in the tv. Had to get something just to pry it out. My cousin just got a CRT HD 720 Sony Tv. It's used, got it from his job at a local college.

Could that be the problem? Also, he has a replacement PS3 that I gave him

I have my hd cable, its still going strong, but his didn't last

They're sending a new cable, but I don't know man. we're kinda hesistant to put it in the ps3, We don't want the melting end to be on the ps3 part. That would totally suck.

edit: sorry, meant to post in ps3 section.

To me, it sounds like your cousin doesnt know how to take care of anything.

I've never once heard of a TV or a PS3 melting a cable. Nor have I heard of a cable melting itself.

    it happens.

my cousin is 24 years old, he's not some immature reckless 14 year old, he taks care of his sstuff lol.

thank goodness it didnt't fry the tv, thats exactly how the hdmi outputwas , gold plate inside but not badly burned and we were able to pry it out.
    .
I want to say its the older model voltage that caused this? its a 1.4 cable with a crt hdtv..that has me suspicious.

Mine is working just fine, i have a visio 26''

Sounds like a dodgy HDMI port. If it is then no amount of new cables is going to fix it you need to open the TV up and investigate to see if the re are any brown burn marks on the HDMI circuit board and/or an acrid smell of burnt electronics.
    THe other ports maybe unaffected.

Monster does not do anything better than a cheap hdmi besides drain your checking account. Not sure how or why it melted, but I would check your components first before blaming a cable.

Never blamed the cable specifically, but not ruling it out. It IS an old hd tv. Seems like the ones that launched 4,5 years ago.

My first guess is that, because you mentioned the TV is not only a CRT but used, it's outputting more power to the HDMI port than necessary.

me too, I never heard of a/v output short circuiting, that is crazy. I advised my cousin not to plug it via hdmi through that tv anymore, and just buy a new lcd tv when he gets a chance. He's lucky it didn't burn hhis ps3, like that other guy.

the hdmi cable brand is solid, mine still works. I don't use the one I provided in the links. It could happen with any cable apparently.

Sounds like it was a problem with the TV. This is the first time i've heard of an HDMI cable melting but i don't actively go around the net looking for that. I'm sure it's happened a few times before.

Must admit, when I unplugged my Sky HD box the HDMI connector burnt me. It was so very hot.

The tv seems like it cannot handle the heat or voltage? Yeah, they do get warm if not hot.

yea, if you had to pry out the HDMI from the TV, than it's the TV that melted that part.

Don't buy a monster cable, that would be stupid. It was most likely a short, either in the cable or one of the devices.

ps3 playstation 3 melts hdmi cable

While I was playing the game, PS3 got hot, smoke comes out and the hdmi cable melted. Since then, the system is not working. It has YLOD.

It is very possible that it is the HDMI port.

Anyway, try a higher quality cable just in case, since it's an easy thing to do. You never know, maybe it was a defect cable after all.
