    Houston, we have a problem!

Houston Texas, along with Kennedy, IS NASA, yet Houston will not have get one of the retired shuttles. Instead, California and New York are getting shuttles.... complete and utter BS, and nothing but politics, even according to our liberal mayor!

Yeah, that's kind of silly. The Smithsonian I can see, but the other two should go to the two main NASA operations locations.

I have no problem with the Smithsonian, like you said, but NY and California and NOTHING for Houston? There are a lot of very unhappy people here right now...

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it on the agenda to suspend NASA's budget anyway so there may actually not be any more shuttle launches in a while. Thought I read that somewhere.

Meanwhile, we will be paying the Russians to do the work for us...

This is part of the reason why I have no respect for this guy. He's willing to spend untold billions on all of his massive pet projects (obamacare) but he's more than happy to cut NASA's already minuscule budget on a whim.

I've ranted about this before, but NASA is one of the few groups that actually really puts out. Aside from all of the science and intel garnered from their exploits, the inventions they pioneer and then release into the private sector are extremely lucrative.

Microchips? Scratch-resistant Lenses? Velcro? Smoke Detectors? Memory Foam? Invisible Braces? Ear-thermometer? Shoe-insoles? Long distance telecommunication tech? Cordless tools? Water filters?

    Yea, you can thank NASA.

If you lived in Houston (aka Space City) you might feel a little different about it.
We can't drill off of our coast, we lost Continental to United, an inferior airline, our refineries have come under attack by the EPA, now we don't get ANY of the shuttles!

I remember hearing how Obama was a pragmatist, but after two years, I think its pretty clear he is just as much of an idealogue as anyone else.

No. All that is happening is that the shuttles are being retired. We will have another four to five year gap before we get a replacement vehicle of the same specifications in terms of feasibility, re-usability and scope.

Meh..not like they are moving the operations themselves..no big deal. More people will see them this way, makes sense.

How about the people that actually care/give a damn. Better them than CA/NY.

Yeah, I do understand the argument that more people will see them this way, but I think the people that have poured their life and soul into the mission for the past 50 years should be considered. And, Houston is a huge city, plenty of people would see it in Texas.

CA has had very little to do with the program, and NY even less.

and here- all of a sudden... the a government agency gets preference to the private industry.

As someone who works in the space industry... I can assure you that NASA is alive and well inventing new ****.

Constellation was as bloated a program as anything coming out of DC... Lockheed didn't want any part of it... but the Bush politics won the day... and 10 billion dollars later we realized it was a big mistake.

I am stunned that some people appear to love their Playstation(1,2,3) or Xbox(360) more than I love the Denver Broncos.
    Trust me, it's sad

The difference between NASA and a lot of other Government agencies is, NASA produces things, such as technology.

I do admit, Obama probably had little to do with the decision (just trying to make 2 & 2 = 5 ), but I am sure it was political and there were some Democratic Senators that did.
