There are a group of guys working on it, they have created the landscape for the continent of Westeros (Which takes 54 minutes, 12 seconds to get from Dorne to the Wall on horseback) but haven't built any of the landmarks or anything in fact on it yet (Last I heard)

Weird? I guess you could call it that, although sick would be more appropriate. Useless? I don't think so, as the consequences of it lead to some pretty major plot points.

That is one of the major plot points, and yes there are a lot of sex scenes but all are for story purposes or to make the setting authentic (brothels etc)
