Was final fantasy x one of the best graphical games of it's time when it came out?

Just restarted playing this old gem and with abit of polishing I feel this would be better than alot of current gen games, what's peoples favourite graphical games of last gen? (think purely graphics nothing to do with gameplay)

Well i found FFX more impressive then RE4 in those day's. Afther that came offcource GOW I + II. Not a single game i played beat that graphicaly

I never really got Had the chance to play re4/ gow1&2/ ico & sotc which is why I'm glad these collections are coming out I finished the god of wars though and they were fantastic

FFX is a brilliant game. It still is very enjoyable to play.

I reckon ff10 looked better then gow 1 and 2, probably not polygon count wise, but I don't think any game looked better then final fantasy 10 or 12

FFX released way before any of those, but personally I'd say Jak & Daxter was the one of the best at the time.

Yes I know, but I haven't seen much of it so I cant comment on that.

The best game in the ps2 era for sure. I hope it's get a make over but that game was perfect anything less that is a understatement.

For its time and for at least a couple years after I'd say there really weren't any games as graphically impressive as FFX. It was the first RPG I ever played, thus the first FF as well. MGS2 for instance looked more realistic but it took less effort to look realistic because it was meant to be like that. FFX couldn't do such before it had varied enviornments and vivid colors. Still to this day though, some of the graphic feats of FFX are among the most impressive, I'd say. Talking about some of the magic fx and stuff like that.

Texture wise, it wasn't a big deal. However, every character model looked extremely well made for a PS2 game and the animation was superb.

But yeah, FFX was the first RPG I played as well. After I played it a bunch of times, I tried to find other RPGs of similar quality, but I couldn't find any. Most other RPGs at the time were low-budget, had limited voice-acting, etc. Since it was my first RPG, I was certain the entire genre was as epic as FFX, but I really didn't find anything quite on the same level until FFXII to be honest. Dragon Quest VIII was great, but there was no voice-acting. Xenosaga was probably the closest thing, which I bought, but it still wasn't quite the same.

So it was certainly way ahead of its time. I really didn't need anything else to play for a few years. Except for maybe one other game a year, I just kept replaying FFX until about 2005. Then I started getting into Metal Gear Solid, God of War, etc.

This is exactly how i feel. I tried and currently still trying to fond a rpg with the same quality as FFX but it seems impossible these days. It feels like RPGS is a dying breed excluding mass effect but after FFX i got into MGS, KH, and GOW to.

Yeah FFX was my first FF as well for it's time it was a great game graphically.

As for other games I found that were great Jak and Daxter those environments were so beautiful I actually wanted to live in the world.
Kingdom Hearts 1 was also another great game graphically for it's time. So was Star Ocean: Till the end of time

FFX was great. Storyline was amazing.
