haha this is only the beginning of the use of cell. Sony is going to make a lot of money from this lol.The much hyped Cell processor will play an integral roll in the processing power of the PlayStation 3, but that isn't stopping co-creator IBM from limiting their ambition, reports Tech News World.
IBM has announced a partnership with medical equipment developers Mercury Computer Systems, who will incorporate Cell into medical chip-testing equipment, and eventually military gear (radar, sonar, etc.).
Additionally, Toshiba will utilize Cell in its digital television sets next year, there are plans between IBM and Sony for a Cell-powered engineering workstation, and a Cell-tooled version of the Linux operating system is currently in the works.
The future is a little more uncertain, but analysts are incredibly optimistic about IBM's potential. Rick Doherty, an analyst for tech market researcher Envisioneering Group, told Tech News World he believes IBM could eventually grab up to 1/3 of the three billion dollar market for embedded chips.
I wonder what else the cell will be used for![]()
