    Cell goes medical

The much hyped Cell processor will play an integral roll in the processing power of the PlayStation 3, but that isn't stopping co-creator IBM from limiting their ambition, reports Tech News World.
IBM has announced a partnership with medical equipment developers Mercury Computer Systems, who will incorporate Cell into medical chip-testing equipment, and eventually military gear (radar, sonar, etc.).

Additionally, Toshiba will utilize Cell in its digital television sets next year, there are plans between IBM and Sony for a Cell-powered engineering workstation, and a Cell-tooled version of the Linux operating system is currently in the works.

The future is a little more uncertain, but analysts are incredibly optimistic about IBM's potential. Rick Doherty, an analyst for tech market researcher Envisioneering Group, told Tech News World he believes IBM could eventually grab up to 1/3 of the three billion dollar market for embedded chips.
haha this is only the beginning of the use of cell. Sony is going to make a lot of money from this lol.
I wonder what else the cell will be used for

So the Terminator's Neural Net Processor is the real world's Cell chip ?

So Skynet would be IBM and Miles Dyson = Ken Kutaragi ?

    I love this line:

Additionally, Toshiba will utilize Cell in its digital television sets next year, there are plans between IBM and Sony for a Cell-powered engineering workstation, and a Cell-tooled version of the Linux operating system is currently in the works.
I think that’s more than likely which linux distro is going to be shipping with the PS3

Yes it has begun, the future is now, CELL is growing and will eventually take over the world, puny humans muahahha *cough cough*

Yeh it could well be 'Skynet' in the real world, you never know, we will just need to wait heeheeheeheee.

Great to see that they are going into medical and military applications, just as was meant to happen, then im sure we will see them in TVs and fridges and toasters as well soon

    CELL is great.
    I have no signature.

I want my refrigerator to read my toaster's feelings via Cell and make it happier so my toast turns out better! I want to be able to go into my kitchen, the Cell chips in all my appliances would interact with the Cell in my PS3, thus making it faster, all wirelessly!
