    Will PS3 be a decent BR-DVD player?

Choose what you think the PS3 will be like as a BR-DVD player. Will it be as cumbersome as the PS2 to use? Will it be entirely new and great? Let's find out.

well, i know that sonty have been tryin to make the ps3 as quiet as possible and because it is via hdmi, there should be no/minimal difference in quality compared to top end blu ray players. But there will probably be a slight difference in quality between top end blu ray players

    Should be decent.

The PS2's DVD functionality wasn't bad, but I had no use for it (I've only used it about 5 times) since I had a DVD Player.

My PS2 has always ran DVDs without any problems... I mean never. Never froze, never skipped. The only thing I didn't like about it was the lack of a controller.

That's a good question, and I would assume just two for now. This is because there aren't many (if any at all) four layer BR-DVDs on the market. Maybe sometime down the line Sony will update the drive to read more layers. (And keep it internal...!!!)
Got my (2nd) PS3...seems to be doing all right so far.

There's rumors going around that the PS3 will be the best, most well tested Blu-ray player on the market.

I find it funny how the creator of this topic whined about the PS2 DVD drive, because I never had a problem with it.

Yeah...but I'm stuck with only component inputs in my TV (and no plans to replace it) so I won't be able to get the best picture from my dear PS3.

It had a controller it was just hard as hell to program and use.

Ps2 never let me down when it came to dvds and i dont expect Ps3 will let me down with bd-roms

Mine was working fine for like 2 years before it started acting up. By the time it reached the age of elderly, it pretty much said nothing but the infamous "DISK READ ERROR" everytime I played a dvd (a new dvd that was never scratched). This time around I will run some tests so that it plays all formats with problems.

I expect the PS3 to be far lower in terms of quality than a stand-alone player, not only because of the price difference but also since the PS3 uses alot of hardware to produce the image, which I suspect, as with PS2, Xbox and 360 will make it a very poor quality player.

I am not saying anything about the functionality or the convenience as I have yet to see the remote control or the interface on the PS3 for it.

There has already been some pics confirming that the PS3 Blu-Ray will function like PS2's DVD player did. I never had a problem with that though, it's been my DVD player in my room forever and I've never had a problem. Wireless controllers should help

20GB PS3 (with 160GB HDD), Acer 22" Monitor, Logitech Z-2300 speakers with harmon/kardon rear speakers connected to a Creative X-fi 5.1 card, Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel, and a ton of racing games with a few FPSes sprinkled in.

Thats true, but you have to keep in mind that Sony is trying to push a new technology into peoples homes, so if sony incorperates a lower model of Blu-ray player into the ps3, its not going to encourage people to buy the stand alone models or even purchase movies for it as the experience wouldnt be that great. So im going to say equal to, just because theyll be pushing the ps3 more than they will the stand alone units.

I expect the PS3 to be a very good Blu-ray player, because it won't be hampered by ram and processor issues like the PS2 was. And I'm betting that Sony uses converters from their audio-video products division, so the a-v quality should be better than decent. It may be very close to stand alone players in quality.

Blu-ray discs are meant to read better than dvd's. How come i don't see anything on the poll to say that it would actually work really well? I haven't voted this is BS

Decent? I would say yes because decent to me means it plays the discs without problems.

    Not sure, let's find out.

You won't know until November 11th, all you can do now is hype yourselves up to the point where you'll be disappointed by the PS3's playback of BD Discs.

My two cents, at least. Same thing happened with Spong, only this is a forum topic :P
