With every passing year Activision releases a new Call of Duty, makes a boatload of money, recycles the game and again makes money.
Make way for COD:ELITE
Even after all the milking of the franchise to dryness Activision and Beachead have thought of an idea of introducing a premium subscription service named COD:Elite which seems like a Glorified version of regular Statistic and gameplay tracking at first glance, but has a lot to it than meets the eye.
So join us in this Dissection of COD:Elite subscription service.
A)Basics first.
Back in February,Activision announced that they were forming Beachhead Studios, a wholly-owned development studio that would work on Call of Duty products.
As mentioned above this is a Subscription service that will be introduced on November 8th when MW3 hits store shelves. This would also include a separate Premium subscription plan to cater to truly Elite hardcore COD fans who are willing to shell out some hard earned cash just to have that extra edge when it comes to having full fledged clan support to winning goodies such as iPad,unique Weapon camo,T-shirts and MS points to mention a few through winning tournaments and matches organized by Activision.
B)The Online Multiplayer will still be free
Set this misconception aside first.COD multiplayer was always free to play and will be even after the introduction of this service brewed by Beachhead Studios. -PEACE-
Those not so hardcore CODders need not worry as your game MW3 will ship with free multiplayer.
C)Features included in the service-10 Things that you must know
1) Connect, Compete, and Improve form the main chunk of the features in this service.Activision has already started enrolling gamers for Beta testing Elite this summer with Black Ops.Gamers can enroll on the Official Elite website
Truly way beyond your basic stats
2)Advanced Stats-Elite tracks almost every stat and portrays them in the form of charts, graphs, heat maps and more.If even after watching all your past Statistics if you felt that you underperformed, there is also a feature which includes all top class tutorial that breaks down each and every weapon complete with video guides on how not to be a noob at multiplayer.
3)Truly Mobilized integration-Access to the Elite service on mobile phones, web browsers, tablets, and more.
GROUPS!-A fun way to locate and interact with Like-minded friends
4)Groups-We can also join Groups via Elite which can be anything ranging from Anime to Peanut allergy.Groups are basically a compact name given to a bunch of like-minded gamers who play Call of duty.
5)Full fledged clan system-This will be introduced for the first time in any COD game, definitely a welcome feature. We can organize intra-clan tournaments in the clan system, and also take part in the many challenges offered which give away prizes, ranging from a unique in-game badges, to belt buckles, to t-shirts to MS points and iPads.
6)Contests-These include posting community challenges where gamers for example need to post a best screenshot based on some crazy stunt or kill or anything that gets posted 24/7.
7)Most of the service to be Free of Cost-Most of the service including the Stats database and Clan system to be offered free of cost for all gamers across all three platforms-PS3,PC and Xbox360.
Premium service-Advanced features are available only for Premium subscribers which include “full access to all of the digital content” which supposedly will include all future DLC map packs.
9)Pricing?-No exact pricing details revealed.Though based on Activision’s statement “Premium sevice to be Less than any comparable online service for gaming or entertainment”,Elite could most probably be coming in at $5 a month or $60 a year.
10)Regular Multiplayer will always be free-Usual online multiplayer to remain absolutely free and fully functional for non-Elite gamers.
D)The Bottomline
Even though Activision has loads of stuff to announce at E3 its definitely requires a good analysis before we hand over our hard earned cash to them just based on the above features and Activision’s promise of keeping Cheaters and Hackers completely away eith Elite.Though the full fledged Clan system which hopefully might be as robust as Killzone 2 is a very slick feature and the Groups being a trendy and innovative way of finding Like-minded COD gamers in our vicinity which we could never know, this service sure has its fair share of pitfalls even at this early stage.
Though Activision might offer some very cool stash to collect as mentioned above, how feasible is it for an above average gamer to win and claim those prizes in this era where most COD games are literally plagued with Hackers, mods and cheaters.
Lets wait for E3 for a full rundown of all the features first hand before making any blind guesses.
Shore your opinions.

That part is a positive. The paid part of this service will sell mainly to those die-hard Call of Duty fans that "need" to have everything. I'm assuming this means that everything will be the same for everyone apart from DLC being given to Elite subscribers either free or discounted.
Would still be nice if it were all free though, but that ain't going to happen.Steam ID: satchgear

Will be interesting to see if ps3 users get the map packs at the same time as xbox with this subscription, why would anyone on ps3 pay for this if they were still getting screwed! I wouldn't pay a monthly fee for cod even if it was for dedicated servers and cod is all I play but I would pay a one off fee to activate multiplayer if it had it's own servers if it was a small amount (£5-10)

I forsee alot of games doing this in furture.
Quake Live works similar if you pay for "pro" you get extended stat tracking, clan system, all DLC included and the ability to run your own server whenver and wherever you want.
I cant see dedicated servers beign part of the deal though thats asking too much.Last edited by keefy; 06-01-2011 at 16:58.

Would non-subscribers get access to DLC map packs as well??
The only thing I see great about COD Elite is the Clan system. I love the idea of Clan based tournaments... anyone can tell me if that feature is available to non subscribers too?? that would be sweeeeeeeeet!PSN ID - DweetRight

Because selling the maps to non subscribers will make them a bucket load of cash. This is untested ground for the CoD franchise so they're bound to tread carefully with how much they want to push under the 'subscribe' banner.

Man we pay 60 for the games 15 for the dlc that's almost 90 bucks and they are the best selling game francise ever they should just be thankful and give it to the cod community for making them so much money IMO.They are just being greedy here you don't see bungie charging for this do ya.
