Best thermal paste to fix YLOD? (also gonna get a heat gun and do that reflow thing)

So this morning at 4 am or so my PS3 got the YLOD playing Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.

I dont really have $300 to get the black ops bundle (cheapest bundle out, or I may go for some "holiday bundle" witha 320 GB, tho im gonna wait till E3 is over)

But what im not sure is, whats the best thermal paste to use?

Figure i'll try this instead just going out and putting money down. ($30 to fix it, vs $150-$350 that I dont really got)

I heard Artic Silver 5 or Artic Cooling MX-3 - but which is the easiest to find and best to use?

Wait after the e3 press conference, for a possible price drop. You can sell your ps3 for parts, probably get $100 for it, so you won't have to put much into a slim.

If you do decide to try and fix your ps3, this is some very good thermal compound/paste:

Can you link reviews by professionals that clearly state ones that are better than AS5?

I wouldn't use Arctic Silver 5 if you paid me. It's a really bad idea to use an electrically conductive thermal compound on electronic componenets. A little smear in the wrong place can fry your chip or motherboard.

I always use a Ceramic or MTX based thermal compound. That way if I do accidentally get some on a lead or pin, it's not going to cause an electrical short.

I can't decide on which brand of thermal paste I'm gonna use.

Which is better, Gelid GC Extreme or Thermalright Chill Factor 3?

I used a thermal paste that I got at The Source (Canadian Radio Shack) Worked great. The problem with YLOD is that it reoccurs. Get your game saves and get out of there! Also deactivate your Ps3. I got a few weeks out of my Ps3 the first time fix but it significantly decreased every time. But consider yourself lucky that your Ps3 lasted this long!
