Battlefield 3 vs. Call of Duty: MW3

With two of the biggest shooter franchises of all time going head-to-head later this year, we want to know which game PS3 owners are most looking forward to: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3?

Though both games will undoubtedly offer similar cinematic set-pieces throughout their single player campaigns, both are set to offer a different gameplay experience, particularly via their respective multiplayer components.

With Battlefield 3’s heritage lying in warfare on the grandest of scales, you can expect 24-man, squad-based, open-field warfare, where going it alone is likely to result in instant death. Modern Warfare 3 on the other hand will be packed full of compact skirmishes and fast-paced battles. Both titles are set to really up the ante with their multiplayer game modes, with a host of great features including a range of impressive matchmaking options. It's too early to tell which game will come out on top, but we know many of you will already have your favourite.

We’ll be bringing you full previews of both games in due course, but what we want to know right now is: Will you be buying both games later this year, or will you choose one over the other? Let us know by entering the poll on our forums, and feel free to post your comments about how you came to your decision.

Battlefield 3 is set to launch on October 25 (U.S.) and October 28 (Europe) with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 due for release a week or so later on November 8, 2011.

Same for me, both. For different reasons too. I'll play both campaigns, but I'll play MW3 for quick pick and play sessions when I only have 1/2 hour to spare, but will play Battlefield when I have more time; and when I fancy plugging my headset in.

You know what? I've given it some thought and I'm not going to get either one. I'm sick of FPS's right now. You all go have your little 'war' of which is 'better.'

There are no more wars for me, in any regard. I will get both probably.

I'm going to do a quick Nostradamus impression and predict that the 'both' poll option will win, with people buying only BF3 coming in second place.

As a HUGE FPS fan I have to say BF3 only, at least at this time. I have grown weary of the type of gamers that flock to CoD games and simply can't take it anymore. Plus, with dedicated servers, the instances of hacking/modding will be reduced dramatically, if not totally eliminated.

I'll get both for sure, but will probably play MW3 more. I like the variety in COD more, when it comes to firearms anyway.

    Battlefield for the graphics.

But for a real war experience, I'm looking forward to ArmA 3. It makes both of these games look like kids shooters.

Battlefield for me and a middle finger to Activision. I know I don't have to give my money to anyone but I hate that Activision rewards their fans' pushing their games to the top of the charts every year by introducing a pay service. Seriously, spending $60 a year plus $15 dollars for each map pack isn't enough?

Battlefield 3 for certain... I like the more strategic/calculated type games. I'm sure both will be great tho. MW just doesn't happen to be my type of shooter.

    On the contrary,

I hope MW3 bombs. Call of Duty 4 is displeased with the casual nonsense known as MW2, Black Ops and MW3.

I'm hoping BF3 will be COD4-like because I need a real shooter in my life. But I feel that won't happen because I was burned by DICE with Medal of Honor.

    BF3 for me also.

The more recent COD Games are aimed at younger audiences unlike BF3. DICE is keeping it fresh.
