Subs could get colored names and possibly a /home feature?

Also, you never white-listed me after you enabled it.

That's what I was thinking, perhaps /fly and /tp abilities, too, so they can get around faster. I won't be giving the /give command to anyone but admins, though, purely because of bad experiences with that on other servers.

Also, I've now white-listed your account, you should be able to get on. I should also let you all know that, for the mean time, mobs have been re-enabled purely because the current seed is NOT going to be the final seed. Once I've worked out how to change it, I will set it up with the perfect seed.

Seahawkk quit trolling, me and Jaeger decided this with good intentions. If you don't agree with it start your own dedicated server and fund it entirely yourself. At the end of the day its exclusive for PSU members if you don't wish to help pay then enjoy public servers.

not trolling but not everyone has money to donate. i could easily host a 12 person server on my basic laptop. to spend 10 seems ludicrous

Good for you, go and 'easily host a 12-person server' on your laptop and let us know just how many opt to play on that rather than this safe, secure, trusted server. Like I explained, it's only 80p a month and, anyway, that 80p a month is now optional. If you pay, it'd be greatly appreciated and those who do pay will be rewarded for their support. If you don't pay, you're still more than welcome to play - just with less benefits than those of paid players.

Is that 30Mbit your upload speed? I would say 10Mbit upload is the minimum needed for 12 players although I have no idea the bandwith usage of Minecraft per player.

But your laptop isn't on 24/7 is it whereas a server in a data centre is. People would have to wait for you to switch your computer on and your schedules might not match especially different timezones that is unless you want to keep it running all the time wasting elctric and then clogg up the connection when you download your movies, games, music and stream youtube vids etc.
Thats what you are paying for guranteed uptime and connection stability.

games send packets, your upload speed does not have to be fast at all your download speed only has to be moderate. halo for example sends 10mb per hour of gameplay. ive hosted 10 people on my laptop successfully with little lag

Jaeger, if you get BigBrother installed you can remove the whitelist. BB can roll back anything and everything done by possible griefers.

Just to let you know, the server will be offline for around ten minutes while I install some plugins, such as Bukkit and BigBrother.

you tell me what could someone possibly do by hosting a minecraft server on there laptop? unless by "trusting", you are referring to up time, back ups and that sort of stuff

That, and it's a lot more secure.

Also, the proof is in the pudding in regards to hosting a server on your laptop - the time it's taken you to reply that one comment, despite having posted before it, says something about your connection. Just sayin' bro.

And HDD failure is yet another reason why hosting on a server is better.

    Thats great you managed it.

Clients downlaod more than they upload.
Servers upload more than thy download its why they are called servers.

Upload speed is what matters most when hosting a server. Those packes still contain data and therefore use bandwidth.
Lets say your server is full with 12 players and Each player only sends your server 1 packet per second but the server has to send that packet to every other player on the server plus everyone elses packet.
So you are downloading 1 packet from each player per second but you also have to upload 12 packets per player per second. so your upload is just as if not more important than downlaod speed.

I Still doubt your laptop is on permanent.

packets contain very little data. in an hour of halo reach on average i will send 30 mb an hour. like i said i have hosted 10 people on a minecraft server with little lag. (yes there is lag, but there will always be some) my 25+mbps download and 1.8 mbps upload does just fine i bet i could host 15+ people on my desktop

Actually, FYI, there's no lag on the server-based host.

    Just sayin'...

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The server will be offline for a short time while the plugins are installed. I apologise for this but will try and keep the downtime to a minimum.

So am I and, trust me, there isn't.

Anyway, server is back online with a new seed. Let me know what you think of this one. It isn't as 'hilly' as the old one.

Everyone knows there's always some lag, but if it's whether it's noticeable or not.

Your home connection isnt as fast nor as reliable and has more hops for other players to join unlike a server ina Data centre which is on the main internet back bone its a fact that dedicated servers in a datacentre are better due to having more reliable connections with lower pings and LESS LAG than residential internet connections.

i know that, im not arguing that. Im stating that for hosting a minecraft server of 12 people a home connection would work fine. This whole argument is invalid anyways,, i was just trying to say that giving benifits for donating is a dumb idea.
