Can't post a link as I got it off the engadget app on my phone, sorry.
Id Software has taken that whole "can it play Doom" challenge to heart in recent years, embracing the mobile space in a big way. Given the explosion of phone-based gaming, it's not hard to see why -- in fact, the speed with which devices have advanced has apparently left co-founder John Carmack's mind reeling. In a recent interview, the Wolfenstein / Doom / Quake developer noted how iOS has gone from non-existent to a major gaming player in the time that it has taken the company to develop the still forthcoming Rage. And while the iPad 2 isn't quite as advanced as some might suggest, Carmack predicts that in two years, mobile devices will "almost certainly" be as powerful as the current crop of high-end consoles. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Going by what he said and thinks, consoles will be 10 times powerful than current consoles in two years.

Possible. The tech is getting old. Not to mention running it on a small screen would potentially use less resources.
Will be interesting to see where the mobile gaming market goes, nonetheless.

It could be possible. Technology advances rather quickly although by that time, both Sony and Microsoft would have their next generation consoles announced or released.

I wouldn't doubt it, at least in terms of raw specs not necessarily performance.
Mobile gaming is fun, but a lot of the draw to console gaming is the "This game is going to take over the room" feeling a big screen and surround sound. Mobile gaming also has input issues, even with hand held consoles. You're confined to play a certain way and lack freedom of having input device disconnected from the screen/console.
