They're saying that with their technology - developers can develop with unlimited power on today's modern PC's by not using Polygons but Atoms. I'm interested to see how this progresses and their presentation is looking very promising. I mean detailed dirt?. Sold!.
Note: These guys are just in the technology business so if real game artists get their hands on this then I can't imagine what they can achieve.

Crazy. But what kind of computing power would you need to run a game using that kind of tech?

Sadly this technology won't Work on the Average consumer for at least 10 years. You need a super computer to run this at a decent frames!

There are several people now saying this is BS and just a ploy to get investment money by a small obscure startup. They are showing voxel rendering which can be very fast with what seems like a huge number of voxel elements. But like people are saying, no evidence of it being used with animated characters, mostly just terrain objects. And while it does address topics, the overall visual quality of this video isn't very good. It has a very procedural look to it and ends up being kind of bland.

I'm curious: Can't they have both voxels and poly-based entities together? Voxels for the environment and polygons for character models. I'm no expert, but I don't see why not.

Yeah, it was actually used several years ago in Delta Force and a few other games.

The uniqueness these guys are claiming is that they are using point cloud rendering, with the point clouds representing voxels. Looking at the old games that used voxels and polygons together, it is easy to see that polygon crunching by itself has far surpassed those early efforts. But these guys are claiming point clouds in the millions representing essentially hypervoxels are able to be calculated 30 to 60 fps. It remains to be seen how soon this shows up in games.

Think this is just environmental engines though it would be nice to see todays gaming worlds are an inprovement and on PC they do look amazing if they really work at it and use a decent engine
