Next-gen chips to make phones more powerful than PS3

any phone with enough power to rival a PS3 will have about 3 or 4 hours of battery life. It's not worth getting overly crazy with these cell phone games, they're only meant to chew time on a line at the bank or waiting for a friend to show up for lunch and occasionally a facebook update or a email. When I can barely get through the day with a low end android playing 10 minutes of angry birds and listening to 20 minutes of music I can't see the value in paying close to the same price people complained about in regards to the PS3 for a PHONE.

I don't know about that. Technology in mobile devices have gotten a lot better over the years. Check out this SOC from Qualcomm's Snapdragon and the Project Kal-El from NVIDIA:

Going to be 5 times more powerful in 2 years. If these play back 2560 x 1600 at greater than 30fps, then just the resolution is more powerful meaning a lot of horsepower behind it.

The way smartphones are going, people shouldn't be surprised that they'll eventually leave the ps3/360 behind. The way technology is coming up future consoles , after only a span of 3 to 4 years might start to look outdated. But i myself am used to gaming on a 65 " hdtv, a tiny ass phone screen just wont click with me. Then there is also the issue of the battery with the phone, the more powerful the game the more juice it would suck out of the phone.
