Perhaps RAGE‘s delay was for the better, as it now gives Xbox 360 owners plenty of time to clear off their hard drive space if they plan on installing id Software’s upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter. You may be asking yourself, “well, it can’t be that big of an install, can it?” Well, the answer is “yes,” and as you may or may not have suspected by media you’ve seen from the game, RAGE’s Xbox 360 install size is a whopping 22GBs!
Don’t you dare think about not installing RAGE either, as id’s John Carmack stated that while the install size is unfortunate, if you plan on playing on the Xbox 360, “that’s the way to go.” Otherwise, you’ll just hear that disc “churning around as it’s pulling everything in.” Even Blu-rays!

Not an issue for me. Can we please keep the PS3 and blu-ray out of this thread. All the bickering lately is making this place really annoying to visit.
Just a topic reminder - 360, rage, install. Enjoy.

Holy shit. Isn't that exceeding the capacity of the DVD though?

They were thinking that they can provide consoles cheaper w/o a hdd, and people could update as they saw fit. Easy solution. It doesn't have a 4GB HDD. It has 4GB of flash memory, with the ability to add a HDD if the user so chooses. Simple.
One could buy the console for $199, and later upgrade to a 250GB HDD for $100 or less. What's so hard to understand about that? I'd love it if Sony offered a console w/o a hdd and I could add one later when I needed it. Save money on my purchase, and when I add a HDD to it later.

Not all THAT unfortunate.. they can still play the game, it will just have more pop-in.
Remember, this is an OPTIONAL install even for 250GB owners. Some might find it playable, or just fine, without the install. Some won't. If a 4GB owner wants to upgrade to install, he/she can get a new HDD.

The way Carmack makes it out, it sounds as though installing the game is the only way to play.

theres not an install disc so I'm assuming each disc can be installed played and removed for the next disc.
If you still have a 20gb hdd you can still install and play all disc from the hdd, just one at a time.
Also not sure if there is a full install and play off disc one feature or not but you may have to have the disc your currently playing installed or not in you drive.

that sucks. i have a 20gb hdd and even then it's actually 13gb of usable space. i'd be getting it for the ps3 so i don't care.

"you can install one disk at a time on the 360, you don't need to install all three." John Carmack said
`source
Its all or nothing per disc. there's no mandatory install on 360 so there
is no install disc for a game. Which means each disc can be installed and played by itself.Last edited by maltrophstitan; 08-12-2011 at 07:19.

Installing one disc, deleting and installing a second disk would be annoying if you were really into the game, only multidisk game I've had is LO and was lucky I had a 60gb model! or was it 40gb :S I can't remember what my 360 is :S
if I am in the PS3 or 360 section I will NOT post about the competitor just to please people, if you want to know what I think about the competitor link me to a thread in the appropriate section
