i know its a cliche but the first time i played res evil 1 on the PS1 was in the dark with the sound turned up high, it was unlike anything i had ever played before at the time and truly the scariest game i had ever played, and the sudden crash of the dogs breaking the silence as they burst through the windows made me jump off the couch, i shat myself

a special mention must go to when i often used to hear the sound of Coma's cluster bombs bouncing around me in warhawk, guaranteed death right there !

My scariest moment wasn't even from a horror game. Me and my brother were in the Krypt in the new Mortal Kombat unlocking things. We knew that some monster pops on your screen randomly so we tried looking for it. As we were unlocking something it popped out and scared the crap out of us even though we know it was coming eventually. We forgot about it for one second and that's when it popped out.

Currently Playing: Gotham City Impostors-Battlefield 3-Saints Row The Third
No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.

I would have to say the most scariest moment in video gaming for me would have been more scary for my wife than me, but OHH was it funny as all heck... I was playing FEAR2 several months back and had done warned my wife about the little girl that just pops up out of nowhere just to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up; but she had forgotten and was wanting to watch me play... I started playing and was in the hospital area, turned a corned and BOOM, there the little girl popped up out of nowhere... At the moment that little girl popped up my wife went to screaming, her dr pepper went flying across the room and the bag of chips went everywhere... I went to laughing so hard as she was covered in chips and dr pepper... needless to say she has never watched me play FEAR2 since...

P.S. I also learned its a good way to get her to leave me alone... Just pop in some FEAR2 and peace and quiet is mine...

My scariest moment in gaming came from playing Fatal Frame on the PS2. Easily one of the scariest games ever made. I had the lights out and the sound cranked. I have my camera up and I am looking for a ghost. I walk in to a room and see nothing. I turn around and I see this.....
That was the first time I actually yelled "Oh Shit!" from being scared playing a game.

Hardly gonna win the competition here but this in an honest entry. haha.

My scariest gaming moment was actually playing the first FEAR at a buddies house. It was like 3.30am and we were sitting at the same PC playing it, taking turns each new area/level. And it was the part when you climb down a ladder, and as the player reaches down to grab onto the ladder to begin descending, you see Alma standing at the top of the ladder. We pretty much screamed and shit bricks. We woke up his whole family with our yelling. Good times. lol

I believe my scariest moment was at my friends' house and I guess you could say this was their scariest moment too, as a kid anyway. I was hanging out with my friend Alex and his brother and I saw Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 for the first time. Good lord, I walked in without even knowing Resident Evil 3 was on the screen and I fainted at the sight of Nemesis covering the screen. Alex and his brother tried waking me up and at first they thought I was literally dead from being scared. About two hours later, they got worried. They got too scared to tell their parents so they kept me in their room. They left the room for a bit and when they got back, they opened the door and I started walking and moaning like a zombie. They screamed bloody murder and fell to the floor nearly crapping their pants. I laughed and laughed and they were like, "That ain't funny, dude!". Honestly, I was unconscious for only about 25 minutes but I figured I'd give them a scare they'd never forget like how Nemesis scared me. So, I did. xD

Resident evil was the game that scared me to. It was how when he,nemesis, caught you he used to spit something on your face. Plus the music in resident always created a foreboding feeling for me and it always kept me on my toes especially nemesis's theme song. Hearing that song made my hands sweat.
Edit: I used to jump everytime i see nemesis or when he tried to ambush me. I hated him.

When I was younger, I played Doom 3 on the XBox and it took me about a year to finally beat the game because of how terrified I was. It wasn't the demons that scared me, it was the zombies. I've always had a searing fear of (slow) zombies in games ever since I watched George Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead' when I was 5 years old. I also remember playing the Resident Evil Remake on the gamecube and being absolutely terrified of, well, everything. I distinctly remember the graveyard in particular...

Regardless, I can't point to a single, drastic, terrifying moment in either of those games, so here's one that's actually recent. Amnesia: The Dark Descent. This is the scariest game I've ever played.

You are entirely weaponless, and have no way to stop, slow, or kill your enemies. You can only run, hide, and pray to the gaming gods that they'll pass over your choice of concealment. This entire game will have your heart racing as you strive to survive this nightmare. However, there is one scene in particular that comes to mind... the flooded basement.

In search for some alchemical compounds, I stumble into the basement and find bodies floating in the knee-high water. I listen carefully for the footsteps of monsters, and hearing none I proceed to walk my way into the water. Big mistake. I see splashes spring up at the end of the corridor and race towards me, and something grabs my character and I instantly die. I soon realize I can't step in the water, as it will attract some invisible beast that utilizes water to hunt. I'm forced to move crates and jump my way Mario style through the entire basement, occasionally slipping and fleeing towards the nearest spot of relative safety as the monster charges for my direction.

Eventually, I get to the end of my path, literally. There are no more crates or objects to step on to cross the water. I pick up the ribcage of a previous, less fortunate individual that was floating next to me, and toss it across the room. The beast takes the bait, and I jumped down and sprint to the doorway, barreling down the continuing hallway. Too soon do I realize that it's already on my tail, and I keep hitting large, heavy, wooden doors that take an eternity to open. I quickly shut them all behind me, but the creature merely bursts through them on it's tyrannical rampage to devour my flesh.

    Doesn't seem too scary?

20 minutes of that really starts to wreck your nerves.

Adding to this, after I left the basement, peaceful music started playing, and I thought I was safe. Then this thing came out.

I still haven't beaten the game.

I'm probably going to fill the cliché and talk about Amnesia like so many others likely have. It's true it is a scary game and Steam says I've only tallied 73 minutes on the game, 35 of that was a friend playing for the first time.

my legit scariest moment in gaming was back when I was 9 or 10 and played Parasite Eve. It was the scene on the rooftop right after you defeat the spider monster. I may have been imagining this but when you fail to get to the fire escape in time Aya tries to run away anyway. She has this... horrified look on her face that scared the hell out of me. This might be because I cannot stand to see people suffer, but that was it. Legit, scared, child.

My scariest moment was when Resident evil came out on the PS1 and the dualshock came out as well. My brothers and I were playing in the dark and when we got to a section where you had to go through the dark, the DS controller began to do the vibrating but like a heartbeat and then a zombie just came out of no where when we entered the area. All of us just jumped, scary moment.

Earliest moment I got scared was during Ape Escape when I was 12 or so, Swimming in that ocean or whatever and out came that huge ass fish thing. Jumped so high. Looking back now I laugh. xD

(EDIT: Dont have a "scariest" so I opted for the "earliest". :P)

FEAR 2 scared me so bad...well, I used the bathroom on myself...BOTH kinds!!!The game was so good though, that I didn't even bother getting up to clean myself up, I just kept playing. My wife and kids just laughed at me!!! Can you believe it!? I'd love to play FEAR 3 to see how scary it is, but every since the "accident" all of my disposable income has went to buying adult diapers. Why does my love for scary games punish me so...

The online maze game. Your moving right along not touching the sides of the maze, concentrating really hard then BAM! The zombie face pops on the screen with a wail. It more made me jump than scared me.

My scariest moment was playing RE1. There wasn't really such a moment, more of the entire playthrough. It still scares me to this day. I jump all the time.

The scariest moment in gaming for me would weirdly enough have to be the bit in uncharted 1 where if you fall into the water you get dragged down by those weird cursed monster things and the first time it happened i was playing it with my friends and none of us knew it would happen so when i jumped in i suddenly drowned and then my friends ended up screaming their heads of which in turn scared me s***less, and then kept me scared for the next ten or so minutes thanks to them still screaming each time it happened.

I got playstation 1 for christmas when i was 6. my first game was casper and i beat it ina few days. after that my mom brought me home Resident evil 2. i didnt know what kind of game it was and instantly popped it in. i was playing it around 8 o clock at night. the second the game started, and i saw all the fire and zombies walking towards me, i freaked out, threw my controller and ran down stairs. i feel like a wimp now at 21 thinking about how scared i was over a game. But i could not even sleep in the same room that the game was in. i cried for about an hour. my mom returned it a few days later and brought home twisted metal<3 i still get goose bumps remembering playing resident evil 2.

Or it has to be Demons souls, when you face the first boss after being killed 784 times and spent about 12 hours trying to regain lost SOULS ! then you walk in that big room and see some big blob fu**er and you immediatly think, i may aswell sit in the corner and cry ! ;(

my scariest gaming moment isn't truly scary know that i think about it. When i first got my ps2 my auntie gave me tenchu fatal showdown at my surprise i was cautious playing this game. but holy Shit when i got to level 2 i saw so many freaking body's hanging around i was freaking scared and especially when you fight people. Know it doesn't seen scary but at the time and age i was it was pretty horrifying.

Or it has to be the time when i was playing Resistance 2 and my room was dark and my bro was next to me. then the character fell in to the water and boom COMES POPPING OUT A CHIMERA and me a and bro both screamed and i didn't not not touch that game for like a month.
sorry for my second story i think i was more scared during this time

I don't usually get scared easily when playing video games, mostly it's during movies. But a few times surprisingly Siren: Blood Lines Chapter 2 and this moment in FEAR 2.

My buddy is a broadcaster and he had finished playing FEAR 2 and he saved clips during his gameplay of "events". I never planned to play FEAR 2 so I watched the clips. There was this scene near the end of the game just before you enter the pod (the ending) you pass by a playground. So my friend was lost and he was just screwing around, running around the place, and found a teddy bear on the ground. He looked around, and saw no one so he decides to 'teabag' the bear. Moments later he looked up and Alma was sitting on the swing, and he freaked out. A second camera showed him throw his control up and he fell off his sofa. I laughed, like a lot.

So later on, my cousin ended up buying the game and let me borrow, I was like why not. So I got to the same area that my friend freaked at and was prepared for Alma to show up. Usually for that area you just continue walking to the next area, but I wanted to find the Alma he saw but couldn't. Tried to teabag the bear and nothing. Decided okay whatever, but when I turned around Alma stood right in front of me, and I jumped. At the same time a CD that I had placed on top of my TV slip down and crashed and I jumped again.

Idk if it was really a coincidence....heh...

scariest moment in game history for me

Easily one of the scariest moments would have to be the doll room in fatal frame 1!
Just the fact that im paranoid of dolls and paranormal stuff already freaks me out but to actually PLAY a paranormal game about ghosts and a freaking camera is the only thing that kills these punks is just a big WTF mode.
So anyway the doll room is basically yea a freaking big room with a bunch of dolls lined up all over the room LOOKING at you and the item (and secret ghost picture) is in the room so your FORCED to go in there.
As soon as you go in you hear little kids in the background and a freaking air duct across the room where YOU KNOW something is waiting yet your too freaked out to go in.
But once you do go in all the dolls just look at you while the damn spooky noises are heard and you see a ghost waiting for you inside BESIDES the one in the airduct. Basically once you figure out the damn puzzle and get the item you need the dolls hide a secret frame ghost and mr air duct ghost comes out of freaking nowhere right next to you and it turns out to be a freaking KID in a kimono and you cant leave the small closet room until it dies and even when it dies you hear its laughter for a good minute.
And thats only 1 room in fatal frame . Point is that game is a mind twist and i got scared soo many times but that damn doll room takes the cake for giving me the first true scare in that game!

In the wooden attic in Condemned. I used the flashlight on my automatic rifle to see through the darkness. The entire three rooms of the attic were all empty of creatures. I came across a laundry shoot. I looked down, and didn't see what I expected: nothing but a laundry shoot. I backed away from the shoot and turned to my right--a blur burst from the shoot and attacked me in a furious array of noise and controller vibrations. I dropped my controller by throwing my hands in the air, and jumped over the couch. I also have yet to touch that game again.
