Summary: 512MB of System RAM
128MB of VRAM
640MB RAM total.
This was really the only information we were missing. So, it has more memory than either the PS3 or 360.
For comparison, this is equivalent to many of the upper end smart phones available. Typically they fall in the 512MB region.
The 3DS has 128MB of RAM + some undisclosed amount of VRAM.

Very sexy for a portable. Any news on a possible app store/service like the iPhone?

Probably 1.2gHz per core.
That is some nice looking RAM. Must be why they can run so much shit in the background now, I would say maybe 100+MB to be reserved for the OS.
Still makes the PSP's RAM look sickly at 32MB. And we have seen some simply amazing games run with that.

I'll see if I can find the quote again, but I believe they stated there will be one. If I remember correctly, they said they are focusing on the games for the store first and will start offering apps later.
Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Skype will be offered through the store as an app instead of preinstalled.

Well that raises my hopes. I'm wanting little cheap casual titles though, like Plants vs Zombies or Cut the Rope. Not those games specifically, but similar games like that, that sell for a dollar or two. That would make the Vita the perfect portable system. I could have my mainstream titles like Uncharted, but also simpler, fast-to-pick up and play titles too.

Here is the quote. It probably won't be loaded with apps like smartphone app store's.
http://www.develop-online.net/news/3...dev-kit-pricedBain concluded by confirming that while the Vita will eventually see non-gaming apps created with Sony partners, for now the company is only accepting game proposals. the system will also, like the PS3, boast support for freemium gaming models.

Wait, I thought the rear touch pad was the only touch surface on the Vita. Am I reading correctly that it has a capacitive touch screen on the front?

Looks sweet. I normally buy my consoles on launch, but this one will have to wait as I am not in a hurry to buy it.

That has eased my worries. Now I just need to know the battery life and the cost of the external media storage cards...

PlayStation Vita more RAM then PS3
Kinda Blows, kills my hopes on cross game chat.
link: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/18/pl...oss-game-chat/More is always better, right? For Sony's upcoming PlayStation Vita portable, more RAM means it has some features that big brother PlayStation 3 doesn't: namely, cross-game chat, courtesy of the console's Party system. "So the reason why we were able to include something like Party, which enables cross-game voice chat," Sony Worldwide Studios prez Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer, "is because we designed Vita so it always has enough resources to handle something like that behind the game while it's running."
Sony has finally confirmed the specifications of the system's RAM, after rumors that the electronics giant had halved the RAM to better compete on price with the 3DS. "There were some rumours for the last few months. Some developer mentioned the RAM was halved. We never announced the amount of RAM, and we never changed it," Yoshida said. So in order to combat confusion, they went into Gamescom unafraid to share those details.
And, without further ado, we'll share those deets! The PlayStation Vita has 512MB of RAM and 128MB of V-RAM, compared to the PlayStation 3's 256MB of system RAM and 256MB of video RAM. While that's half of the PS3's video RAM, Yoshida reminds us that the resolution of the two platforms is very different. "The resolution on the PS Vita screen is much lower," he explained. "Even though it's four times the resolution of PSP, compared to the console, the amount of data you have to push is much smaller."
While this all sounds like good news, there is another reading: Since the Vita uses all that extra system RAM to allow for cross-game chat, one could assume Sony will remain unable to implement the long-requested feature on the PS3. Then again, nearly five years into the console's life, that inability should be pretty apparent to everyone by now.

Right, so PS3 needs more ram then the 360 to do cross game chat....
anyway, bet ya games will never look any better then PS3 games, despite it having more ram then all the current consoles
