GDC '11 Evidence - Why BATTLEFIELD 3 on PS3 will be a better port than on Xbox 360!!

Check out this Interesting Video which explains why the PS3 Port of BATTLEFIELD 3 might be Superior to its Xbox 360 counterpart-

It looks PS3 owners would be getting a better looking port of Battlefield 3 than Xbox 360 owners will be entitled to. This isn't because DICE wants to discriminate but because of the fact that the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 will support SPU-based deffered shading whereas the Xbox 360 version will only have tiled-based deferred shading.

With the inevitable release of BF3 looming before us its really a good time to speculate whether the PS3 port will be Substantially good to the 360 version or not...

I'm a little tired of the multi-platform wars. Nearly never take part in them other than to say the PC version will be vastly graphically superior to both PS3 and X360.

From here on, the simple fact is the PS3 and 360 are both middle-aged now, with the 360 approaching old age. The PC in the meantime, never ages, it is always being renewed, not individual ones but the platform in general. The PS3 and 360 are now stuck in trying to squeeze as much performance as possible from a limited hardware configuration, and even with these efforts, are going to fall short of the quality the PC is providing. No way is 720p 30fps going to compete with 1200p 60fps. They can get close but the trick is how close with what they have. The PS3 can't do anything about resolution or frame rate but it can do a lot more with lighting, textures and stream caching. Then even those techniques are going to start hitting limits in a couple of years while the PC will be 1600p 120fps. It stops making any sense to compare console graphics to the PC version other than seeing which one can come closest to the PC quality with the least amount of degradation and speed. With developments like FXAA3 and SPU based render processing methods, the PS3 is showing to be more capable of being second to the PC from here out.

Why do people have to come into PS3 vs 360 threads to say PC is better? majority of console owners dont have good PCs, so why would they care. Its sort of starting to annoy me.

i know right? NO ONE IS ARGUING ABOUT PS3/360 vs. PC.

its STRICTLY about console version of games being put head to head... all you guys ranting on about the PC are doing so unnecessarily...

this is a PS3 vs 360 thread... PC gamers... what are you even doing here?

PC elitists are worse than console fanboys imo. A debate about the consoles is understandable because they are almost identical with their own strengths and weaknesses, but the elitists have to come in blabbering the obvious.

Now I don't know which version of the game to get. I was going to get the 360 version, but now I'm starting to think. Then again, if I don't get the 360 version I won't have to re-up on that stupid Xbox Live subscription.

Maybe its just me, but I cant wrap my head around why people get so obsessed over graphics & in particular which format looks best, especially when the differences between PS3 & 360 are insignificant.

My first console was a commadore 20, so the graphics today all gravy!

Perhaps its an age thing!?

Nobody is arguing about it but they should be. And it shouldn't be PS3 & X360 vs PC. It should be PS3 vs X360 vs PC. There are three different platforms this game is coming out on, not two.

These head to heads are nothing more than a measurement of 'superiority' so thus it's absolutely relevant what the best looking platform will be. Yet people discount one as irrelevant because it's capable of producing so much more than it's rivals? Or because some people might not have a powerful PC? Nonsense. It's a debate about which version is best.

To clarify. I'm a gamer. Not a PS3 gamer, not a X360 gamer; not a PC gamer. A gamer.

Because when you have a game on multiple platforms you should compare them all head to head and not selectively choose which ones you want to compare. Either compare them all or nothing!

But yeah as Goo already said. We are gamers for the games. Not gamers for the platforms.

No, there is no point to comparing PC. Consoles are static technology, the comparison between the consoles comes down to the developers skill and the platforms FIXED architecture. All a P.C does to come up trumps in a comparison is have the latest graphics card. The P.C comes out on top only because it's upgradeable. Wanting to blend into the comparison scene is just to feed the ego of the P.C gamer because every game will be better on P.C and it will always be this way.

It's nothing to do with finding what's the best. Thats obvious. It should still be included though. Before I bought my new PC I still compared both my 360 and PS3 to the PC to see what would give me the closest to the best experience possible with new games.

Will the Wii U be allowed to compete with the PS3/360 due to it being newer technology or will that also be an unfair comparison when that comes out because that will be getting compared as well. Soon as I own one, anyway.

Thats a good point bro..
There is also an other report by dice saying that they will be able to use the spu for morphological anti-aliasing (MLAA) on ps3.
Please dont bring up the PC in this discussion.
