The PS3 price cut rolled out on August 22 led to a sales surge of over 400 percent in Australia during the week following its introduction.

That's according to NPD Group Australia sales data gathered from national retailers and happily passed along by Sony.
Sony Computer Entertainment Australia MD Michael Ephraim said: "This new price point really represents fantastic value for money as PlayStation 3 delivers full HD games, Blu-ray capability, plus music, movies, catch-up TV and more on demand.
"Australians love not only games, but also the quality home entertainment PS3 provides. Sales are booming because PlayStation 3 is the best device to connect to your TV, at incredible value, to provide the ultimate home entertainment experience."
UK PS3 sales reportedly jumped 65 percent during the week following the price cut.

Pretty good going I'd say, perhaps Pach attack might be right for once.![]()

How can it be 400%? There is no such thing as a 400% increase, unless i am wrong as was told wrongly in school, but i thought anything could only ever reach 100%...? Now I'm worried!

I can't wait to see the quarter results. It'll only be a glimpse of what the ps3 will do once it reaches its real sweet spot at $199. I'm not sure how much that converts to in other countries.

Not surprising since the price was slashed by a massive $150 Australian dollars - far more than the 50$/50 EURO price-cuts for the U.S. and Europe.

I wonder what amount it was selling to see a 400 percent increase. It had to be low surely.

It's still a great price by SONY at $349. Retailers here took it an extra step to 298 which is one heck of a deal. Good for retailers too because every PS3 sold is another Blu-Ray player in the market they can reach out too.
Oh and SONY's price drop here was $150. $499 down to $349. retailers dropped it another $50 so the total cut becomes $200+Last edited by mickice; 09-02-2011 at 14:39.

My guess would be 2,000+ units were sold since the price cut. Insignificant in the total world wide sales.
Australia only has 21million people. No matter what our purchase intents are they rarely leave a significant dent to sway anything.Last edited by mickice; 09-02-2011 at 22:12.

One more piece of the world puzzle. Two more countries to go.

that'd be 500%, or five times the amount.
Huh? Two more countries for what?
@topic:
400% increase from what? Surely, selling four times the amount you did previously is better than not selling that amount; but what number are we talking about here? Doesn't mean much without figures.

Looks like microsoft needs to do the same or loose the lead. Maybe their waiting till Gears 3 is out. I hear console sales pick when an exclusive comes out.
