Sony never do simple adverts do theyMany Bothan spies died to bring us this information.
Well not really, but I've always wanted to say that. In any case, these images were dropped off in our mailbox by a certain source who may be in the know at the erm, source... maybe. It's all very clandestine and Broken Sword-ish, suffice to say they may or may not be authentic.
These images are apparently representative of some of PlayStation 3 billboards that will be a part of the PlayStation 3 ad campaign. The billboards are slated to go up on October the 1st in New York but as always in cases such as these we can't state with 100% certainty that these are real, still, we're fairly certain (ish), they do seem to match Sony's penchant for high concept advertising and continue using the tag "Play Beyond"first shown at E3.
We've got what I've affectionately named "the bland 4D room one, the dead chessman one, and the big melty clock one. Have a looksee:
Some thoughts: Off the top of my head the big melty clock one appears to be an allusion to Salvador Dali's surrealist painting The Persistence of Memory, it might even share some similar themes to that famous painting which also features a number of melting clocks which are a visual representation of the warping of time that appears when we enter the dream state ( "Play Beyond", get it?). And then there's the dead chessman, or more accurately, the dead King, I expect this one's fairly straightforward, game of chess ends when one player captures the opponents kind, game over, checkmate... I think.

How can 3 separate designs appear on a single billboard that has a similar building behind it?
Because it's fake. That's why.The only thing that separates an avid gamer from a hardcore gamer is the selection of gaming platforms. For the hardcore, there is no selection.

Anyway, I'm thinking the one with the clock melting links in with the whole concept of 4D.

I like how they've put the red 3 in the PLAY B3YOND. Now we still get to keep that 3 that I thought we had lost from the WELCOME CHANG3 campaign.

For some reason I especially like the 1117. Everything else - very stylish, but I hope they don't go the Dreamcast ad campaign way of style over substance (meaning: screens).

The 2nd and 3rd one are great.
Sony seem to have a knack with advertising with some abstract link between the product and the advert.
I wonder what Ad company they work though, or do they run they're own?

Some of them I couldn't tell what they are about :S (if I didn't know it was a PS3 ad)

when youre sony, you have a great ad agency. plus, they ain't gonna advertise 6 months before launch, they're gonna wait till its almost launch.
During E3 I check out the booth babes, and if that's wrong...then maybe I'm missing the point of E3

I dont really feel atracted to any of them...Except for no1. Clean and elegant.
My choice by far, in case they are not fake...

why can't Sony just say 11/17 instead of that weird looking ///7
-

I think they're cool.
The whole concept is that you can defy the laws of nature on your ps3, just like the ps2 ads.

Because it gets people talking. You are going to get people who don't understand what the advertisement means, but they see them popping up around the city, which will prompt them to ask questions, and viola, word of mouth marketing.
I've always liked Sony's swagger when it comes to advertising and company image. They always uphold an elite standard of style.Bunch of sensitive crybabies on this forum
