I had a feeling ole Carmack couldn't pull it off to parity on the PS3 from all his whining and bellyaching. I couldn't care less for this game though, tons of better titles coming out. I don't care if a game makes eyegasms, if the AI, physics and animations are "old skool" then it's meh. Still, he has done well to accomplish what he has from a technical standpoint, and it will be interesting to see how the tech will be used this gen (maybe) and next.

If I were to consider the game, it was 360 all the way.

I pretty much agree with this author's post, after having played Doom 3 and now Rage on the PC. Doom 3 was criticized for not having much of an outdoor area (which was true) but the interiors were very detailed and the dynamic lighting was a big part of the game. Rage borders on a cross between Fallout 3 and Border Lands, with the graphics very similar to Fallout 3. There is a lot of old school with Rage and a lot was probably intentional with all the easter egg references to the original Doom and other games. The big advance for Rage was the megatexture for the open world but it looks like the interior texturing and lighting took a step backwards. These are after Doom 3 has been modded but still fairly representative of the original. Look at the next to last image, the texturing on the brick. There is bump mapping and detail to the point of imbedded little skeletons in the brick.

Doom 3 modded overshadows iD Software’s RAGE – New drooling screenshots

Let’s be honest here, we are really put off by RAGE’s graphics quality. Even with all the tweaks to avoid the annoying texture pop-in, the game suffers from really low-quality textures. Add to that the pre-baked shadows, old-generation shaders and limited dynamic lighting and you get a game that could be easily released several years ago. In fact, iD Software’s previous game, Doom 3, looks way better than RAGE.
That is with the addition of various mods but still, it shows what can be accomplished with iD’s previous engine. Imagine now what we’d have on our hands if iD Software took advantage of iD Tech 5. So here is hoping that some mods will come out for RAGE that will actually modernize it. Until then though, enjoy these new Doom 3 modded screenshots – courtesy of Rage3D’s user, ‘demo’.

360 is darker, PS3 is brighter (Like pretty much every multiplatform)
360 has little jaggies, PS3 has more
360 isn't blurry in places, PS3 is.
Not interested at all, but if I was: Blurry textures is about the only con the PS3 has to me.

Comparison Thread -> 360 v PS3
If PS3 > 360 = Claim PS3 superiority in every aspect not related to game + act like there was never any reason to compare.
If 360 > PS3 = Claim that game is worthless anyway, you had no interest in the game so it's a moot point that the 360 version is better.
If PC > PS3&&360 = Claim it's unfair to compare coz PC costs moneyz and I don't want to upgrade to a $700 dollar graphics card to play Commander Keen herp derp, cell processor rules.

The 1GB patch for Rage on PC adds a few options to tweak the performance rather than letting the game engine do it. I turned down the AA from 16x, and now my game is running smooth as butter @60fps. I can actually enjoy the game now!

It's a great looking game on both systems that runs at 60fps. There is no loser here.
Compare this to Desus Ex which sometimes goes as low as 20fps on console.Last edited by mickice; 10-09-2011 at 15:16.

Doom 3 is a PC game, Rage is a console game ported to PC. Rage sacrificed some things to achieve 60FPS on consoles.
Aniso filter set to 16 can cause textures to blur 8 is recomnded and dont force it in the control panel you can get a checker board effect if you do (driver bugs)
Why don't they give a link to download the mod? I wouldnt mind giving it a try its been a while since I played Doom 3.Last edited by keefy; 10-10-2011 at 19:35.

@Bligmerk
The graphics in Rage are not 'very similar to Fallout 3'.
