Are console exclusives dead?

I am with Ghost on this as well. I prefer variety, and if not for variety, I wouldn't be gaming post posting on these forums. I hadn't counted my games in awhile for my Xbox, but I did now. I am standing at 96 games, with 45 of them being Xbox 360 exclusives that I own. The rest are multiplatform, and I am looking forward to 2012 soooo much, as having a BACK LOG of games is a good thing, especially when they are all genres.

Mass Effect 3 was my number one title for next year, but that got trumped by Tomb Raider and the new Bioshock. Still getting ME3, but the excitement when down 2 notches because of those two games

Wow nice. Are they all disc games? I think for next year I am most excited for Prototype 2, Twisted Metal, The Last Guardian, Bioshock and Starhawk. On the next level of anticipation is Tomb Raider, Mass Effect 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines...actually there is a shitload of games but I wont go on listing em.

There are still 2011 titles I will need to get (Skyrim and Dark Souls). But yeah, exclusive games are like the caramel sauce that covers 3rd party ice cream.

While I agree that exclusives USED TO define a console, they really don't anymore. The PS3 is associated with Blu-Ray and the 360 with of Live. I buy a console because of what my friends have so that I can game with and trade with and non-gaming features. Great games can be had on both consoles.

I never said that they weren't doing well, they just don't interest me. I personally feel that exclusives aren't that big of of a deal. Seems that the ones who always throw them out there as ultra important and the be-all-to-end-all are PS3 fanboys.

3rd party ? yes mostly. with the amount of studios that sony (and to a much smaller extent MS) own no. there will always be relevant exclusives.

Perhaps for you. But to the average person out there they have no idea what you are talking about. You have to remember that the people that post on internet forums make up a VERY small percentage of gamers. Maybe that accounts for the not-so-robust sales of most of the PS3 exclusives.

I think I'd rather have 3-4 great exclusives per year than a ton of exclusives of varying degrees ranging from great to meh. At least I wouldn't have to wage through the crap to find that diamond.

I dont think you can speak for "the average person out there". You can make assumptions to back up your point of view however. I think the average person out there can stroll down the PS3 isle of their local games shop and see a healthy selection of games aside from the 3rd party offerings, and they can have the luxury of variety.

I'm with Dennis on this one. Whilst exclusives are great I don't think they are the be all and end all of gaming. I've not bought a single exclusive game since I got U2, unless you count Pokemon games.

lol I'm with you on this. I have stated the importance of of 3rdparty games and the relevance of 1st party games. My collection has plenty of both...ahhh variety. Thanks SOny and 3rd party devs!

Exclusives are what sells consoles... period. You don't walk into a store and see the same game on two different systems and choose which system to buy. You look at what games each has to offer that the other doesn't have. Exclusives dead? NO. Absolutely not. Some people might buy a system based on price alone, but generally, the principle behind exclusive games is to sell a system.

In this regard, you have to go with the PS3 for the most variety in their exclusive line-up. If you're into controllerless motion controls, obviously the 360 is where you'd need to go. It's about what each console offers vs what the others offer in terms of games, cost, etc.

Exclusives are good as they do set apart the games on either system but ,for me, I've had my best game experiences come from multiplatform games this generation.

No exclusive game from any platform has given me the same enjoyment I've had from games such as Assassins Creed, Mafia 2, the Mass Effect franchise, BF, MW, F1:2010/2011, Bulletstorm the list is endless with multiplatform games that trump exclusive games in everyday possible, for me anyway.

For every good exclusive game there is always an equally good or better multiplatform title in my eyes.

Would be cool but I highly doubt Sony would congest the launch line up with so many 1st party games, it would make little sense

That'd be pretty dumb for Sony to do that. I guarantee that Sony won't have 14 AAA games launch with the PS4, from first party studios lol. Those studios will be spreading the games out from launch, through the first 12 months of the console. Obfuscate? Lol.
