PlayStation 3 is the best worldwide selling console of 2011

Nintendo has released some very interesting information in its Semi-Annual Financial Results Briefing regarding Worldwide software and hardware sales for all three consoles.

According to the estimated figures released by Nintendo, Sony’s PlayStation 3 is the top selling console in the World, with NeoGaf translating the figures on the graphs provided as follows:

- US: NPD, Jan to Sep. - JP: Media Create, Week 1 to Week 42. - EU: Nintendo, Week 1 to Week 41. Interestingly this puts PS3 at almost 1 million units ahead of the Xbox 360, which would seem accurate considering that PS3 consistently outsells the Xbox 360 in both Europe and Japan, while the Xbox 360 generally outperforms PS3 in both the U.S and UK.

On the software side there is some very interesting information; for instance in Europe, Killzone 3 on the PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 version of Rockstar’s L.A Noire. While the PS3 version of FIFA 12 is clearly the most popular, going as far as topping the European charts for the period of January –September. Interestingly even Call of Duty Black Ops is performing better on PS3, which is something which we would not have expected.

PS3 franchises such as Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 3 seems to be performing well, while Epic’s Gears of War 3 also seems to have got off to a strong start.

Software for Wii and DS is still going strong in Europe, with eight titles being represented in the top ten.

Awesome achievement but sales are more or less irrelevant these days. Who gives a fuck about sales really, when there are so many badass games to play.

PS3 fights off the competition for another year. Pretty easy to see why with all the games and collectors editions we received.

I must say, i owned an xbox since launch(3 to be exact do to rrod) and had fun with it. Nov.2010 a friend turned me onto the PS3 with GoW3 and Heavy Rain. Ive never looked back! My live sub ran out months ago and i could care less. I love ps store for all their freebies and discounts for being a plus member. I never got 1 thing free on 4yrs of live. I love the fact it can be an all in 1 media station. I love collecting games for it from launch titles to current. And i cannot wait for my UC3 collectors edition. In my eyes Sony is doing almost everything right and rather than being nickle & dimed by MS im a full supporter of the PS3 now!!

PS3 sales are finally up there. Tied in total sales with Xbox even tho Xbox had a year head start, low price tag, AND multiple repurchases due to RROD. Great news! Hail to the King!

Looking at just the consoles sold for 2011(not life to date figures), EU is the reason behind the ps3 pushing ahead of the 360 for the year 2011(hopefully people will see I'm talking about 2011 and not LTD figures).

Wasn't the PS3, since it released, the best selling HD console ? no surprises here... People always made it like the 360 was the best selling when in fact they looked at usa = world, wich is far from the truth.

SONY has enough studios to support the PS3 even after the PS4 and Vita have launched. Helps when your probably the biggest sole entity in gaming. ^_^
I can see the PS3 selling systems longer after the 360.

it is good to see people finally realise what PS3 can offer, gaming industry is not just multiplatform low quality FPSs or average graphics xbox oriented sandbox games, this is a business we all know that but maybe SONY is the only one that supports innovation just see Little Big Planet, the awesome Heavy Rain, God Of War 3 for example, the time will tell and I have no doubt that same as the PS2 PS3 will be the best platform of this generation.
