Use this to clean out old driver files once you have done the uninstall to avoid driver conflicts normally when I update a driver I run the uninstaller and once done find the driver folder usually
(C:ATi Support 11.9 or C:Nvidia 285.62 then delete folder)
I reboot the PC and log back in, I then run driver sweeper for ATi files in my case and remove them once done I install the latest driver also note that sometimes it may remove the SMBus driver for AMD chipsets if this is the case you can re-download the latest here......
AMD Chipset Driver (SMBus, AHCI, USB 3.0) AMD have now combined there drivers for the AHCI SMBus etc in to one package you can download them here -

Catalyst creator often has useful tweets for latest beta driver releases for AMD users.
http://twitter.com/#!/catalystcreator
ATI/AMD users can also update using Steam (if they have it) it is however often a day or 2 behind what is on the AMD website.

Thats nice to see as i ordered last week my x51 with the nvdia gtx555. Do drivers update themselves like automatic updates on browsers or we have to update them manually? My guess is that there is an update button in the control panel or something. Never had to update videocard drivers cause till now i always used macs.

www.nvidia.com
There is an autodetect option on the site if unsure what card yours is exactly.
There may be a update option inthe driver software control panel AMD has one so I expect Nvidia will too.
